Read Easy Torbay and South Devon are thrilled to announce our shortlisting for two Stars of Teignbridge Awards 2026! 🌟

These community awards are run by Teignbridge CVS to celebrate the work of volunteers and local organisations across Teignbridge and we couldn't be prouder to be included in a list of amazing organisations all making a meaningful difference to our local communities 🧡

We’re thrilled to be recognised and it’s all thanks to our wonderful volunteers and supporters and their work every day to help change lives 🙌

Thank you to everyone who nominated us. We can’t wait to celebrate with the other nominees at the awards evening this Friday 23 October!

The Read Easy Torbay and South Devon team enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at Bay Church for the Torbay Communities Champion Awards celebrating the amazing volunteer organisations who make our community what it is 🎉

These awards seek to recognise those who make a difference and who often devote many hours, over many years to supporting others. They are organised by Torbay Communities and Torbay Weekly, with residents and groups from across Torbay nominating those they think should win and be recognised 🧡

Well done 👏 to everyone there today, we were proud to be finalists with you. Big shout out to all the winners and congratulations to Alfie Kidd who won the overall Community Champion Award 🏆

Right now, almost 2.5 million adults in the UK can’t read or struggle to. Read Easy is the only national charity offering free, one-to-one coaching to support them. It’s a HUGE task for a small volunteer-lead organisation, but little by little we’re making a difference in our local communities.

What are the apps you use on a daily basis? Adults who struggle with reading can find it difficult to access services from paying for parking through an app, to online banking.

Last year, Read Easy volunteers supported 1,844 adults on their reading journey. With more volunteers, we can help more adults to learn to read.

With September well under way with the ‘back to school’ feeling and summer giving way to early autumn it’s good to reflect on the successes of the last few months and activities of the team who have been out and about with partner organisations raising the profile of Read Easy Torbay and South Devon and supporting the work of local charities and partners.

Literacy specialist Tim raised over £500 running the Totnes 10k 🏅, a phenomenal amount and fantastic start to August 🙌

Our coordinator, Debbie, had a brilliant day and attracted a lot of interest hosting a reading tent at the Safebreaks Devon CIC annual family fun day fundraiser.

Recently team leader, Anne was invited to an event for young prisoners leaving Channings Wood Prison. This is a new venture by the prison so that prisoners know of the support that is available to them on their release. Anne spoke to many prisoners, some of whom are already improving their reading in prison via the Shannon Trust peer-led reading plan. This plan uses the same Turning Pages manuals that Read Easy coaches use in the community making it possible for prisoners to continue their learning with us on their release.

In late August Anne and Tim attended LandWorks’ annual Supporter’s Day where more than 150 supporters gathered to connect and celebrate their achievements. The day provided an opportunity to look beyond the statistics and see the people, relationships and practical support at the heart of LandWorks’ approach as well as raising funds. Safebreaks Devon CIC Charity Family Fun Day is this SATURDAY 22nd AUGUST 2026!

Lots of fun for all the family including live entertainment throughout the day 🥁 🪘 🎶 🎵

So if you haven't already, pop this in your diary and do visit Debbie who will be manning our Read Easy tent, a lovely place to rest and take shade between hooking ducks, football games and ice cream🍦
