Introducing Ginger Nut!

This tiny little man has had quite the adventure, but thankfully, tonight he’s somewhere warm and safe.

Ginger Nut had been spotted crying in a car park, with several attempts made to catch him and coax him to safety. Unfortunately, he’d found himself a rather cosy hiding spot inside a vehicle and wasn’t planning on making things easy!

People in the surrounding area were asked if they recognised him, even the neighbouring farm, but nobody knew where he’d come from. Somewhere along the way, this little man had clearly got himself a bit lost.

As soon as we were notified, we headed straight out and set up a trap.

We could hear him crying his little heart out, but we couldn’t see him anywhere. After some patient waiting, a tiny face finally appeared. He assessed the situation, decided he wasn’t convinced, and disappeared again.

Eventually, the smell of something tasty became too tempting, and out he came!

SUCCESS! Or so we thought…

Our hearts sank when we realised Ginger Nut was so tiny and light that he hadn’t triggered the trap!

Cue stealth mode.

With some very careful sneaking, we managed to get close enough to manually close the trap door.

Ginger Nut was finally safe!

He’s now tucked up in our care, and we’ve started by treating his rather unpleasant flea infestation. Tomorrow, once he’s had some time to settle, we’ll tackle the oil covering his little body.

But tonight? Tonight is about warmth, a full belly, a cosy bed and a proper night’s sleep.

A huge thank you to all the neighbours who had been keeping an eye out for this little man, trying to help him and worrying about his welfare. It’s thanks to people like you that little ones like Ginger Nut get the help they desperately need.

No more crying in car parks, no more hiding inside vehicles and no more wondering where his next meal is coming from.

Welcome to Hector’s House Ginger Nut!! You’ve certainly made an entrance!

Catnap cushions for cats AND a little help for ours!

We’ve got something lovely to share from Tracey, who makes these gorgeous handmade Catnaps catnip cushions, and she’s very kindly offered to donate 20% from every cushion ordered through Hector’s House to the cats in our care.

They’re £25 including postage and packaging, with your choice of material, catnip inside the cushion and even a little bag of treats (or an alternative for cats who can’t have them!).

They’d make a pretty lovely Christmas present for the cat who already has absolutely everything… or, realistically, just a completely unnecessary present for your cat at any time of year.

If you’d like to order one, comment below and Tracey can get in touch with you directly. Just make sure you quote HH20 when ordering so Hector’s House receives the donation.

A huge thank you to Tracey for supporting our cats, we can already imagine the catnip-induced chaos!

A huge thank you to Wendy in Lincolnshire!

Wendy has been busy lovingly crocheting blankets for the cats and kittens in our care, and she’s even promised to keep making them!

A little kindness goes a long way, especially when it comes from miles away.

Thank you so much, Wendy, for thinking of our little residents and putting so much love into what you do. It’s people like you who make our rescue community so special!

Good morning from Mace!
Mace would like everyone to know what an exceptionally good boy he’s been during weigh-in! Even though he’s getting rather big now, he still sits beautifully on the scales like the little angel he is.

The little hams are warming up nicely!

Parma, Pancetta and Jambon weren’t entirely convinced about us humans when they first arrived, but it turns out the way to their hearts is through their stomachs!

A few treat bribes, plenty of patience and we’re now being rewarded with purrs all around.

These three are coming on beautifully, and it’s lovely watching their confidence grow a little more each day.

Tomorrow they’re off for their post-op checks, and hopefully they’ll get the all-clear to continue their next chapter.

We’re very proud of our little hams!

Who you gonna call? GHOST! 👻

Our little Ghost has taken Halloween very seriously and moved straight into his own haunted house.

Unfortunately, he’s absolutely rubbish at haunting. He’s slept through his entire shift!

Ghost isn’t quite ready for his forever home just yet, but when he is, we’ll be contacting suitable applicants who have already been approved through our adoption process.

In the meantime, he’s got some very important sleeping to do!

A HUGE thank you to our wonderful supporters!

We’ve been out collecting donations from our drop-off points at Pets at Home Torquay and Pads & Paws in Paignton, and just look at all these goodies!

From food and treats to bedding and other essentials, every single donation makes a difference to the cats and kittens in our care.

A massive thank you to both businesses for being drop-off points for us, and to everyone who has popped something into our collection bins.

We really couldn’t do what we do without your kindness and generosity. Thank you for thinking of our little rescue cats!

3½ WEEKS MISSING, 5½ MILES FROM HOME… AND ONE INCREDIBLE REUNION!

When Muffin disappeared from his home in Littlehempston, his family were absolutely devastated.

They did everything they possibly could. Posters went up, social media appeals were shared, vets were contacted, fields and hedgerows were searched, and neighbours checked their sheds and outbuildings.

But as the days turned into weeks, there was nothing. Not a single confirmed sighting.

After three and a half weeks, Muffin’s family were beginning to lose hope.

Then, late one Thursday night, something incredible happened.

A family friend spotted a Facebook post about a cat crying outside a petrol station in Buckfastleigh. The location was 5½ miles from Muffin’s home, well outside the area his family had been searching.

It was nearly midnight, and the sighting had been three hours earlier, but his family weren’t going to miss the chance.

Armed with a torch, Muffin’s food bowl and some biscuits, they drove to the petrol station, right beside the busy A38.

They shook his bowl and called his name.

And out from underneath the parked cars came Muffin, miaowing away!

After three and a half weeks, their beloved boy was finally coming home.

Nobody knows how Muffin ended up so far away. Perhaps he climbed into a delivery van, or perhaps he simply wandered much further than anyone imagined.

He’d lost a considerable amount of weight and was understandably frightened, but he’s now safely back home, enjoying plenty of food, sleep and cuddles with his best friend Pippi.

And here’s why we’re sharing his story.

Muffin is home because people shared, people noticed, and people cared.

Someone posted a sighting. Someone else recognised the possible connection to a missing cat they’d seen on Facebook. That one screenshot made its way to Muffin’s family.

Without those people, Muffin might still be missing.

This is exactly why we encourage everyone to share missing cat appeals, even if you don’t live in the immediate area. Cats can travel much further than we expect, and you never know who might recognise them.

To anyone still searching for their beloved cat, please don’t give up hope.

Welcome home, Muffin. We couldn’t be happier for you and your family!
