The Torbay Heritage Trust (THT) was formed in January 2017, bringing together many active objectors to a breach of environmental planning law in relation to development proposals for the Grade II Listed Torquay Pavilion and its setting. Our Membership is representative throughout England, from Northumberland to Dorset; London to Bristol and Bath, as well as the community in the three towns of To
rbay. Our mission is to protect the whole Torbay Environment in a way that underpins the local economy. maintaining all that is best in the balance between development and an effective enhanced and beautiful heritage environment. We support a substantiated-based planning system which balances the need for development against any harm that might be caused to Torbay’s distinctive heritage, it’s beauty and tranquility. To support the responsible tourism industry that depends on it. The aim is to scrutinise proposals for need, location, intensity of development, balanced against environmental harm. We do not oppose any of these new developments on principle. On the contrary, we recognise all too well the necessity of new developments. It is how these goals are achieved that divides rational and objective opinion. Over the coming years we will work to raise awareness of the distinctness of Torbay, the Culture, Heritage, the Coast and Countryside are all at risk
This aim will inform our work in examining individual case proposals, small and especially for major development. Bearing in mind the material considerations, contained in the Torbay Local Plan, the Neighbourhood Plan, the National Planning Policy Framework. and a multitude of new Local and National planning legislation, for greater environmental control.
