Model Show Returns for Another Successful Year at Thatcham Memorial Hall

Model enthusiasts and families from across Berkshire gathered at Thatcham Memorial Hall on Saturday, 10 October, for the second annual Model Show organised by Ian Lyford from Newbury & District Hackspace, which proved to be another outstanding success.
The popular event attracted visitors throughout the day, offering an impressive display of craftsmanship, creativity and engineering. The hall was filled with a diverse range of exhibits from individual model makers and local clubs, showcasing the wide variety of interests within the modelling community.
Displays included everything from intricate Lego creations and classic Meccano models to highly detailed plastic kits, model railways, and impressive live steam exhibits. Visitors had the opportunity to admire the skill and dedication that goes into building and maintaining these fascinating models, many of which had taken hundreds of hours to complete.
One of the highlights of the day was a Warhammer modelling demonstration, where visitors could watch the pupils of Francis Bailey School at work and learn more about the techniques involved in creating and painting miniature figures. Experts from across the modelling community were also on hand throughout the event, providing advice, answering questions and sharing their knowledge with both newcomers and experienced modellers alike.
The friendly and welcoming atmosphere made the show an enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages, with many taking the opportunity to discover new hobbies and gain inspiration from the remarkable exhibits on display.
Organiser Ian Lyford expressed his appreciation to all those who supported the event, including Thatcham Town Council exhibitors, clubs, volunteers and visitors, whose enthusiasm helped make the show such a success.
Following the positive feedback and strong attendance, the Model Show has firmly established itself as a popular fixture in the local calendar, and many visitors will already be looking forward to next year's event.

Classic Car Show Raises Over ÂŁ1,000 for Thatcham Memorial Foundation

The annual Classic Car Show at Thatcham Memorial Playing Fields has once again proved to be a tremendous success, raising just over ÂŁ1,000 for the Thatcham Memorial Foundation.

Now in its seventh year, the popular community event is organised by Chris Mountford in conjunction with the Thatcham Memorial Foundation, and continues to attract classic car enthusiasts and visitors from across the local area. The Foundation is incredibly grateful for the generosity of both the classic car owners and members of the community whose donations help support the charity's ongoing work.

Held on 10th October 2026, this year's event enjoyed favourable weather, helping to draw a strong crowd throughout the day. Visitors were treated to an impressive display of beautifully maintained vehicles, including vintage cars, motorcycles, and steam traction engines.

The Foundation would like to extend its sincere thanks to the fantastic team of volunteers and organisers whose hard work and commitment made the event possible. Their efforts, together with the continued support of exhibitors and visitors, help ensure the show remains one of Thatcham's most popular annual community events.

Thatcham Mayor, Mark Lillycrop, kindly judged the competition for his top three vehicles of the show, made all the more difficult by the quality and sheer number of vehicles in attendance. First place was awarded to Mr and Mrs Brockbank for their stunning Austin 18/6, a vehicle first registered in Chester in 1935 and one of the oldest cars in attendance. Second place was awarded to a tastefully modified 1970 Morris Minor Traveller, whilst third place was awarded to an impeccably kept 2009 Jaguar XKR.

A spokesperson for the Thatcham Memorial Foundation said: "We are delighted with the success of this year's Classic Car Show. Raising over ÂŁ1,000 is a fantastic achievement and would not have been possible without the generosity of our community, the dedication of our volunteers, and the support of Chris Mountford and all the vehicle owners who take part each year."

With another successful event concluded, the Foundation looks forward to welcoming exhibitors and visitors back again next year for what has become a much-loved tradition in the local calendar.
