Happy birthday to the Royal Marines today

Today, we celebrate 362 years of the Royal Marines. A Corps whose history began on the 28th of October 1664, when King Charles II ordered the formation of the Duke of York and Albany's Maritime Regiment of Foot - the first regiment raised specifically for service at sea.

In 1802, King George III recognised the Corps distinguished service by granting it the title 'Royal', formally establishing what we know today as the 'Royal Marines'. A name that has since become synonymous with courage, commitment and excellence.

From Trafalgar to Normandy, from the Falklands to Afghanistan, Royal Marines have earned a reputation as one of the world's elite amphibious fighting forces. Their battle honours are so numerous, they are represented by a single word on the Corps Crest, 'Gibraltar' - a symbol signifying centuries of unwavering sacrifice.

To this day, Royal Marines continue to carry forward that proud legacy, standing ready to serve wherever duty calls, with the same courage, commitment, and professionalism that have defined the Corps for over 362 years.

To every serving Royal Marine, veteran, reservist and member of the family - thank you for your service, dedication and sacrifice.

Well what a night for our Lodge last night, the Provincial team led by our Deputy Provincial Grand Master, V.W.Bro Mike Greedy attended and through Assistant Provincial Grand Master W.Bro Russ Woodland delivered an exemplary raising for five of our members. Over 90 masons witnessed the ceremony and afterwards came together at one of Karen’s legendary festive boards. Thank you to all of our visitors - what an atmosphere! Topped off by a response to the visitors toast by Chris Waterhouse and a heartfelt haka. Photos to follow. Congratulations to Tim, Malcolm, Martyn, Richard and Mark on becoming master masons.

A big day for both our Lodge and the visiting Provincial team as we set up for a raising of five of our brethren to become Master Masons tonight. We wish everyone well for a great evening of fellowship and harmony in good company.

The defibrillator, donated by the Cleveleys Freemasons, is available for public use and could prove invaluable in an emergency, potentially helping to save a life.
