The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire is one of the most recognisable and emotionally significant aircraft flying in the UK today — a living, airworthy tribute to the pilots and ground crews who defended Britain in 1940. The BBMF operates five Spitfires, each with its own unique history, markings, and wartime story.

✈️ The Spitfire Mk Vb AB910 is one of the most historically important airworthy Spitfires. Built in 1941, she flew operational missions defending Britain and supporting Allied operations across Europe during the Second World War.

On Saturday 4th July, the AB910 was one of the highlights of Somerset Armed Forces Day, performing three sweeping circuits over Vivary Park. Apple FM captured the moment perfectly:
“…the unmistakable silhouette and roar of a Spitfire circling the arena three times…”

A look back at the Cadet Drill display, always a crowd favourite at Somerset Armed Forces Day. The cadets showed fantastic discipline, precision and teamwork as they carried out their drill routine in front of our visitors in Vivary Park. Their professionalism and smart turnout were a real credit to their units, and it was inspiring to see young people representing the future of our Armed Forces with such pride and confidence.

A look back at some of the stall holders, exhibitors, reenactment groups and military vehicles that helped bring Somerset Armed Forces Day to life on the 4th of July. Vivary Park was filled with fantastic local traders as well as brilliant stall holders who travelled from further afield to be part of the celebrations. Alongside them, our military presence, from serving personnel and cadets to the impressive vehicles and equipment on display, created a vibrant, engaging atmosphere that drew crowds all day long. From community groups to specialist exhibitors and military teams, they added something special, to the event, creating a vibrant atmosphere that celebrated our Armed Forces and the Somerset community in the best possible way.
