Swindon Chess Congress over, some decent results by some of our members. A great event and hopefully many more to come in Swindon in the coming years. A full weekend of Classical chess is a real feat. My brain is totally fried.

Well done to those who won the various prizes.

Looking forward to the Swindon Rapid Chess in a few months time!

I might be biased but of course it is.

"Chess is booming through the world," says coach.

After a sharp increase in players following the pandemic, fans are aiming to get the game formally recognised as a sport in the UK.

While over 100 countries and the International Olympic Committee officially classify chess as a sport, it is still not recognised in the UK and Ireland.

Get ready for a night of chess, chatter, and questionable game choices!

Join Swindon Chess Club's Chess & Chat every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at Abbey Meads Pub.

A few games of chess, a few pints or Cokes, and some lively debate about the London System. No judgement - we won't tell anyone you play it. (It's my favourite too, it'll be our secret.)

And, of course, we'll discuss how we can all become more like Magnus.

Spoiler: we can't.

Whether you're a club player, casual player or haven't played over a board in years, come along and have a game. If you were part of the COVID chess boom and started playing online, give over-the-board chess a try. You never know, you might like it.

If competitive chess is your thing there's a few tournaments running in the next few weeks.

Of course first up is The 2nd Swindon Congress at the Steam centre, over the bank holiday weekend.

Stroud chess club are holding a blitz tournament the following weekend and then there's the Witney rapid play on the 20th Sept.

All the main classical chess formats within the space of a few weeks and all relatively close.
