Every time we hear of a new stabbing incident, it hurts. Behind every headline is a family whose lives have been changed forever, friends left grieving, and communities searching for answers.
But we must not become complacent. We cannot allow these incidents to become something we simply accept as part of everyday life. Knife crime affects us all, and preventing it requires all of us to play a part.
We encourage parents and carers to have open, honest conversations with their children about the dangers and consequences of carrying a knife. Ask the difficult questions, listen without judgement, and help them understand that carrying a weapon does not make them safer.
We also urge parents to know what their children are carrying. Check bags, pockets and bedrooms where appropriate, and stay engaged in their lives, friendships and wellbeing. Those conversations and actions, however uncomfortable they may feel, could save a life.
Together, through awareness, vigilance and support, we can help protect our young people and build safer communities.
