⚠️ Warning: Doorstep Scam Alert

We've been made aware of a report that an individual knocked on a resident's door claiming to be from the Council and asked for money to repair the road outside their home.

The individual did not provide identification, but the resident handed over cash.

Please remember:

✅ Always ask to see official identification
✅ Take time to check who someone is before letting them into your home
✅ If you're unsure, contact the organisation directly using a phone number you trust
✅ Never feel pressured to hand over money on the doorstep

Southend-on-Sea City Council will never ask residents to make payments on the doorstep for road repairs or council services.

Please share this message with friends, family, neighbours and anyone who may be vulnerable to this type of scam.

If you believe you have been targeted, contact Essex Police via 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress.
