Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Charity and Friends of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital (formerly known as the League of Friends) worked together to purchase a new procedure chair for the Head and Neck service at Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.
The introduction of the new procedure chair has significantly improved comfort, safety, and efficiency for Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) patients.
Philip Maher, Operations Manager said “The new chair provides better positioning and support during treatments, reducing patient discomfort and procedure time. This chair has allowed the ENT department at Princess Royal Hospital to return to full capacity, meaning patients now face a shorter waiting time but also reduces the need for multiple attendances.”
Debbie Jones, Chair of Friends of SaTH Sub-Committee, said “We’re delighted to have supported the funding of the new procedure chair. It’s wonderful to know that our contribution is helping to enhance patient comfort and improve the quality of care provided. Supporting items like this is at the heart of what we do.”
Julia Clarke, Director of Public Participation, said “We are very grateful to have worked jointly with the Friends of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital to purchase this item for Princess Royal Hospital and a big thank you to their supporters and supporters of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Charity who have made this possible.

The League of Friends of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital have gifted £80,227 for the purchase of equipment for Urology theatres at RSH.
Emily Tudor Operations Manager "Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) is a method for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH (also known as an enlarged prostate). It was developed to treat significantly enlarged prostates that a conventional TURP (transurethral resection of prostate) would not manage.
The League of Friends have generously donated to support the purchase of the kit required to undertake this procedure. This will benefit patients as care can be delivered closer to home rather than an out of county referral, avoiding lengthy delays for patients. Recovery and complication risks are similar to a TURP, where the majority of patients will go home within 24 hours."
The Chairman of the Friends, Iain Gilmour, said " We are delighted that we have been able to fund the purchase of such an important piece of equipment to improve patient care. This is exactly the sort of provision that the Friends are here to enable and I must offer my thanks to all our dedicated volunteers and supporters for their unstinting generosity."
Consultant Dr Ravindraanandan is seen with the patient before surgery. He later saw the patient on the Ward a few days after surgery and he is doing well.

on Saturday 22nd November Lucy climbed to 13,000 feet overhead Tilstock and, supported by her mum, dad, sister, brother-in-Law and our Lady Captain, Lis, and securely strapped to her instructor, leapt out of an aircraft and loved every second of her tandem skydive. As a reminder, Lucy was doing this to support the Shrewsbury League of Friends, the charity chosen in memory of her Papa.
Lucy would like to thank everyone who has given generously to support this endeavour and has, so far, raised over £900.
On behalf of the League of Friends Sue Skinner, Chairman of the Fundraising committee expressed a huge thanks to Lucy and for her incredible achievement.

Patients at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) are now benefitting from significant improvements in urology services, thanks to The League of Friends of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital (LoF) has generously donated nearly £245,000 over the past two years, playing a crucial role in transforming the care available for urology patients across both hospital sites.
The LoF has funded a range of items including: A Morcellator system helping treat patients with enlarged prostates more effectively and comfortably; a Trilogy Lithoclast which enables urgent treatment of kidney stones even outside normal hours; a bladder scanner, cystoscopy chair and other essential tools that directly support patient care and diagnostics
Richard Steventon, Vice Chairman for the League of Friends, said: "It has been great to work with Mr Lynn and his team to purchase equipment for the benefit of patients in the Shrewsbury, Telford and Wrekin and Mid Wales areas.
"The League of Friends and our supporters are focused on providing the latest equipment that will make a real difference to patients and this is a great example of how new equipment opens new opportunities to treat patients faster and closer to home. It also helps attract clinical staff."
Julia Clarke, Director of Public Participation at SaTH, said: "We are incredibly grateful to the League of Friends for their support. These donations have allowed us to not only enhance our service offering but also deliver faster, safer and more comprehensive care to our patients. We're equally proud of the staff who helped secure these items and bravely took part in fundraising initiatives to make this possible."
As services continue to evolve, the Urology Department at SaTH is now well-positioned to offer more procedures in-house, improve patient flow, and deliver on key care and performance targets.
