For all these years we have given hope to thousands of abandoned or mistreated animals who have come through our gates. Our aim is to rehome as many animals as possible into secure, loving homes for the remainder of their lives and care for those that have to remain with us.

🚫 Please cancel your adoption appointments! 🚫

Wait, not everyone, of course... but if you can't make it, or change your mind, please let us know.

Just last weekend, we got two of our kitties all ready and excited for their new homes, and waited... but no one came for them 💔

It might seem like one missed appointment isn't a big deal... a wasted hour or two, just one appointment...

But, when an adoption is planned, we know we'll have a free pen or kennel, which means we can arrange for the next animal to be bought in. When appointments are missed without notice, those plans can fall through, and an animal in need may have to wait longer for rescue. If you let us know, we can schedule a different adoption, meaning the new animal can still come to us!

💚 We wont get annoyed if you change your mind! 💚

We want our animals to go to the perfect homes and it's okay if you don't think that's you! But please, let us know if you can't make your appointment; it could really be the difference between saving another animal, or being too late.

🐈‍⬛IT'S NATIONAL CAT DAY!🐈‍⬛

That's right, they day you've all been waiting for is here!!

We'd love to celebrate with you by seeing all of your Thornberry cats and kittens living happily in their new homes. It really means the world to our cattery team who worked so hard to get them there!

And don't be frightened by our lovely Flash here, he's practicing his scary face for Halloween! (Not really, he's just saying hello while recovering from his eyelid surgery). He's a wonderfully vocal, affectionate cat who everyone at the Sanctuary adores! He's still looking for his purr-fect, indoor only home where he can give his new family all his love!

🐾 VETS’ PATIENT OF THE MONTH: CROUTON 🐾

When Crouton arrived at Thornberry as a stray, she was in very poor condition. She appeared to have had multiple litters and was frightened, uncomfortable and in considerable pain.

Overwhelmed and terrified, Crouton reacted defensively and attempted to bite when approached, making it difficult for our team to handle or properly examine her.

She was suffering from dry eye, where the tear glands stop producing enough tears. This left her eyes extremely sore and inflamed, and the irritation would have affected her vision.

Crouton also had demodectic mange, caused by mites living within the hair follicles. These can lead to severe irritation and skin infections in animals with weakened immune systems. We also suspect she has additional allergies causing itching and recurring skin problems, while her ears were extremely sore and inflamed.

Since arriving, Crouton has received treatment to kill the mange mites and pain relief to keep her comfortable. Our veterinary team continues to investigate and treat her skin and ear conditions.

Thankfully, her transformation hasn’t just been medical. 💚

With time, patience and gentle care, Crouton has learnt to trust the people looking after her. She is now a much happier, more affectionate dog who welcomes fuss from our kennel team and allows staff to apply the vital drops that keep her eyes comfortable.

Crouton’s medical journey isn’t over yet. She is due to be spayed, ensuring she will never have to endure another litter, while treatment for her skin and ears continues.

She will need daily eye medication for life, but this should keep her dry eye comfortably managed.

Crouton’s progress is an incredible reminder that challenging behaviour can be rooted in fear and pain. Rehabilitation is not only about treating physical symptoms, it’s also about helping an animal feel safe again. 🐶💚

Thank you so much for the incredible response, Timmy now has palliative care, we will get back to everyone that enquired as quickly as possible* 💚🐾PALLIATIVE CARE APPEAL 💚🐾 Sadly through absolutely no fault of his own, beautiful Timmy is back at Thornberry after spending 5 wonderful years in a loving home. *His human Dad passed away* Sadly our vets have discovered that Timmy has lymphoma.

Although we don't know how much time Timmy has left, he is currently bright, stable and full of love to give. We would love nothing more than to find him a special home where he can enjoy his days surrounded by comfort, kindness and affection. He's an easy going boy who would love the following -
🛌 A cosy bed and all the home comforts he has been missing.
🏡 Access to a garden for a little potter and fresh air
💚Gentle fuss, cuddles and plenty of TLC
🐾 A pet-free home where he can relax and feel safe
💚 Someone who will cherish him

We know that taking on a dog with a terminal illness can feel daunting, but you won't be doing it alone. We will fully support Timmy's foster family, covering his veterinary care, medication, food and other essentials. All we need is a loving home within a reasonable travelling distance for his veterinary appointments.

🌿🏡 Victoria is looking for a little slice of countryside to call her own!

Victoria isn't the sort of cat who wants to spend her evenings curled up on your lap. She is content with some company, enjoys coming up for her food, and waits so politely at her door every morning. 🥹 She just prefers to admire you from a distance rather than be fussed over. 💕

Victoria is just 2 years old and has already had a little too much upheaval in her young life. 💔 She came to us with her kitten after straying at an industrial estate. Once her kitten was grown, she returned to the place she knew, with someone kindly looking out for her. Sadly, the site burnt down, and Victoria lost the little bit of security she had. 😔

🌳 Victoria needs somewhere she can enjoy the freedom to be herself, with someone to provide food, shelter and care, while respecting her boundaries. Somewhere peaceful, away from busy city life, where she can potter about and enjoy the world on her own terms. 🏡🍃

🐹❤️Turbo is ready to find love ❤️🐹

Our last castrated male guinea pig is still waiting for his happy ending and we know exactly what he needs. A lovely lady or more to love him, look after him and generally boss him about! 😂👑

Turbo is a handsome boy who came to us after he didn't get along with his brother in his previous home. At only 10 months old, poor Turbo was bullied a little, so we think a group of girlfriends might be much more his cup of tea 🍵

He's all ready to find his forever home, so we're looking for someone with the lucky ladies that will send his heart into turbo speed. 🥹💕
