🌳The magical Bobeam Tree is taking root at the Millennium Gallery from Sat 20 Jun! Get ready to explore a world of interactive discovery for 0–5-year-olds and their grown-ups. 🧸

We’ve teamed up with The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood and National Portrait Gallery to welcome this special Tree to Sheffield this summer!

The Tree needs young curiosity and imagination to flourish – join us to play, learn and explore together through stories and activities inspired by Sheffield’s collections, including artworks, animals, dressing-up and toys!

The Bobeam Tree first delighted young visitors at the National Portrait Gallery last spring, where it marked the launch of The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood’s Shaping Us Framework, spearheaded by The Princess of Wales.

The framework aims to increase understanding across society of the social and emotional skills that matter most in life – skills that shape who we are, how we manage our emotions and thoughts, communicate with others and explore the world around us. The foundations for the development of these skills are laid in the first five years of life.

The painting that inspired to become an artist 🌟

Ryan saw The Hermit by Patrick Caulfield for the first time on a College trip to the Graves Gallery when he was 17 years old and it remains a lifelong inspiration. The Graves Gallery, and Sheffield’s collections have been inspiring people in the city, including Sheffield’s artists and future artists, for decades.

A huge part of our work is ensuring that people in Sheffield have access to world class art right here on their doorstep. For Ryan, his experiences with us when he was young went on to shape the artist he became. Our work to inspire Sheffield’s next generation of artists, makers and innovators is only possible thanks to your support. Thank you for helping us provide life-shaping opportunities for everyone we welcome.

Discover this landmark exhibition, When the Day is Done: New Paintings by Ryan Mosley at the Graves Gallery now, until 4 Jul. Please donate £5 when you visit as bringing the best in art and design to Sheffield is only possible thanks to your generosity.

In keeping with Ryan’s practice, the painting appears to draw back a curtain and invite the viewer into a fiction abstracted from fact, familiar yet out of kilter 👀
