We are South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation and our goal is to improve the lives of local people.

Got a talent or a big ambition you want to make happen? The South Yorkshire Mayor’s Youth Impact Fund could help you turn it into reality! 💜

💷 Grants of £2,000 to £10,000 are available to help talented young people overcome financial barriers and reach potential.

You could be a budding athlete, musician, artist, scientist or entrepreneur. Funding could help cover the cost of equipment, coaching, mentoring, training, travel or fees.

Who can apply?
✔️ Young people aged 11–19
✔️ Living in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham or Sheffield
✔️ Facing financial barriers, such as being eligible for free school meals or living in a household where Universal Credit is the main source of income
✔️ Able to demonstrate exceptional talent in their chosen field

We expect families, guardians or carers of the young person may write or send the application, but we want to hear your voice in the words of the young person applying.

Individuals, businesses and organisations can also help make more opportunities possible by donating to the fund. Every contribution can help talented young people access the support they need to realise their ambitions.

For young people in Year 11, that’s a lot to deal, which is why a little encouragement can make a big difference.

That’s where Worth Unlimited Doncaster comes in.🫶

💷Thanks to a £2,000 grant from our South Yorkshire's Giving Network the charity's continued supporting young people across Doncaster this year, including students at Ash Hill Academy.

Worth Ambassador and Doncaster TV personality Molly Marsh joined the mentoring team to deliver an inspiring assembly for Year 11 students and small group session.

💷 Grants of up to £4,500 are now available through our NHS Maternity Care Research Small Grants Programme.

👩‍🍼 The programme's supporting work to strengthen maternity and neonatal care experiences for women & families across the region.

👂 We’re keen to hear from community organisations in Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster and Sheffield that can help women and families share their experiences of maternity and neonatal care, from pregnancy and birth through to the postnatal period.

Key dates:

📢 Just a few days left to finalise applications for our Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund.

The global programme has been created to engage young people (15-24) in South Yorkshire in climate action through grants for locally-led projects.

We’re proud to be working in partnership with South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority to offer grants of between £700 and £4,500.

We’re looking for projects to be proposed, designed and led by young people, supported through a host organisation and focused on:

🪏 Green Skills and Careers
🌧️ Water and Climate Resilience

We’re delighted to award Chilypep. £123,353 through Lead the Change to help transform its Happy Group - a long-running support group for refugee and asylum-seeking young people in Sheffield - into a youth-led programme. 🙂

Since 2018, its Happy Group has provided a safe, welcoming space for 14–25-year-olds.

With this funding, young people will have more opportunities to shape the service themselves and develop the skills, confidence and experience to contribute back into to their communities and future careers.

💬 “By our 10th anniversary in 2028, we aim for Happy Group to become a thriving youth-led programme where refugee and asylum-seeking young people feel connected, empowered and able to influence the systems and communities that affect their lives.” Lesley Pollard, CEO at Chilypep.

Lead the Change has awarded £2.6 million to 21 organisations across the UK. The programme is delivered in partnership with BBC Children in Need, Co-op Foundation, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Henry Smith Foundation, Joseph Levy Foundation, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Postcode Justice Trust, UK Community Foundations and The National Lottery Community Fund.

Can we do it all again? 💜 What an incredible couple of weeks celebrating 40 years of South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation!

4️⃣ 0️⃣ Following our community celebration earlier this year, we marked our milestone birthday with two very special philanthropy events, bringing together our wonderful donors, patrons, trustees, partners and staff to celebrate the power of giving. 🎉

🌟 First stop: The Victoria, Neepsend

Hosted by our Professor Dame Hilary Chapman DBE, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire and SYCF President, we enjoyed an inspiring evening celebrating the people and partnerships that make our work possible.

We heard from our CEO Martin Singer DL, donor and patron Neil MacDonald OBE, and Lindsy James, founder of Active Fusion.

🌟 Next stop: Barnsley College’s Open Kitchen

The college’s talented catering students served an incredible five-course meal, while student musicians, singers and photographers helped make the evening extra special.

We were treated to a spectacular performance from Sheffield Chinese Lion Dance Team and inspired by speakers Martin McKervey, SYCF Patron, and Charlotte Elliott, Founder & CEO of Affinity2020 Community Interest Company.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make both events so memorable, especially the fantastic team at Barnsley College. 🙏

After 40 years of supporting communities across South Yorkshire, we’re proud of what we’ve achieved together and excited for what comes next!

Here’s to the next 40 years! 🫶

A £2,000 grant helping homeless veterans find a place to call home 💜

When Help 4 Homeless Veterans received a £2,000 grant from our South Yorkshire’s Giving Network (SYGN), it helped the Barnsley-based charity provide vital support to veterans facing homelessness across South Yorkshire.

The funding helped cover rent payments, emergency hotel stays and food, giving veterans practical support when they needed it most. 💷

🏠 And since then, they’ve opened Wood House, its first-ever property, in Rotherham. Bought outright thanks to its successful Buy a Brick campaign, the house provides veterans with a safe place to stay while they rebuild their lives.

💬 CEO Steve Bentham-Bates “We are very grateful to the SYGN for the help they have given us. Without funds like this covering our core costs, it would have been much harder to make long-term investments like our Rotherham house.”

Now, the team is working towards its next goal: a second home in Barnsley!
