We are extremely proud to receive the following letters in this mornings post from the Secretary of State for Defence, Mr Dan Jarvis MBE MP and the Member of Parliament for Scarborough and Whitby, Alison Hume MP.
His letter reads as followsβ¦β¦.
βDear Scarborough Sea Cadets,
I am writing to you because your Member of Parliament, Alison Hume, has told me about your work to mark Armed Forces Day. I want to thank you for your dedication, your hard work and your support for those who serve.
I hear the fantastic Scarborough Sea Cadets will be taking part in the parade and I want to take this opportunity to recognise the excellent work they do and wish them all the best for the parade and their band performances.
The brave men and women of our Armed Forces make a tremendous sacrifice in service of their country, and we owe them a debt of gratitude. Now more than ever, their importance to our continued safety cannot be overstated.
It is vital, therefore, that we recognise and thank them for that sacrifice, not least to better retain those who currently serve, recruit those who would like to serve, and promote our Armed Forces for the next generation. Armed Forces Day is an opportunity to do just that, and events like yours play a pivotal role in helping us maintain our defence readiness.
I know that the loved ones of those who serve, and the civilians and volunteers who work to support those who serve, also make a sacrifice. Your commitment to supporting and celebrating our Armed Forces is exemplary and worthy of celebration in its own right. I cannot thank you enough for the important work you do, and I am confident that your event will be a success.
My Ministers and I look forward to seeing some of the wonderful tributes to our Armed Forces in person, and we will continue to do everything we can to support our Armed Forces β whether itβs through housing, healthcare or employment β but we cannot do so without the work of dedicated civilians like you across the country.
Thank you again, and I hope you enjoy Armed Forces Day.
Yours sincerely,
Dan Jarvis MBE MP
Secretary of State for Defenceβ
