🏕️🌧️ DV WINTER BEAVER, CUB, SCOUT & EXPLORER CAMP 2026 – WHAT A WEEKEND! 💚💛

Last weekend, our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers descended on Birch Hall for a weekend of adventure, friendship and fun! ⚜️

The storm certainly didn’t stop us! 🌧️ We adapted, got stuck in and made memories whatever the weather threw at us.

🕵️ Friday night started with a wide game of Cluedo, followed by hot dogs for supper. Bedtime was… well, we sort of got there at a reasonable time! 😂

🥾 Saturday morning saw our Explorers head off on the hike they had planned themselves, while the rest of us enjoyed a walk, made dens and got some fresh air before the rain arrived!

🍕 Lunch was done the DV way – conveyor belt style! Our calzones were meant to be cooked over an open fire, but plans changed and they went in the oven instead. 🥲 Still delicious, though!

Saturday afternoon was all about pioneering, with every section making lights suited to their level. We also had a very popular glow-in-the-dark woggle activity! ✨

There was time for chatting, card games and plenty of fun before a hearty tea of cottage pie, carrots and Yorkshire puddings, followed by pudding and custard. 😋

The washing up was… interesting! 😂 Then it was games before bed.

🌲 Sunday was all about packing up, getting outside for some fresh air and enjoying a few more wide games before awarding our camp certificates! 🏅

To all the adults who gave up their weekend, all our young people who got involved in everything, and our InTouch supporting us from home.

Camps like this take a huge amount of work behind the scenes, and we genuinely couldn’t have done it without you!

The weather may have tested us, but the fun, friendships and experiences carried on regardless. That’s what Scouting is all about! ⚜️🏕️

Beaver Damboree returns for its third year on 12 to 13 June 2027 at York Scout Activity Centre, with a We’re Going on a Bear Hunt theme and a weekend of outdoor activities and adventure.

Cost: £48 per young person and £20 per group volunteer

Booking deadlines 👇
30 November 2026: Register your interest with estimated numbers via the online form.
Early December: £100 non-refundable deposit invoice issued to confirm bookings.
31 January 2027: Add all participant names to the booking system.
February: Balance invoices issued.
31 March 2027: Complete participant profiles, including medical, dietary and permission details.

Spaces are expected to be popular, so groups are encouraged to register their interest by 30 November.

Shout out to 2 of our Squirrels - Winnie and Finley, they are our oldest Squirrels, who lead the whole session from start to finish last night 💚💛

They organised the flag, led the opening, took the lead role of the activities throughout the evening, (even co ordinated the adults to teams) and brought everything to a brilliant finish. They were absolutely fantastic! 🌟

This is YouShape, empowering our youth members….

This is two almost six-year-olds having the confidence to stand up, lead their peers and take responsibility, while the other Squirrels showed them respect, listened and followed their lead. It was wonderful to watch their confidence, teamwork and leadership skills shine through.

Finley and Winnie, you should both be incredibly proud of yourselves. I know we are! 💚💛

As you finish your time in Squirrels and get ready to take the next step into Beavers, we want to wish you both the very best of luck. Keep being amazing, keep believing in yourselves, and never lose that confidence! 🦫✨

🔥🏆 DISTRICT CUB COOKING COMPETITION 🏆🔥

Our Cubs proudly represented Derwent Valley Scout Group at the District Cooking Competition, held at at our HQ on Saturday! 💚⚜️

Working together as a team, our Cubs conquered the challenge and cooked burgers, mash and beans over an open fire 🔥🍔

But that wasn’t all! They also made delicious pancakes and served the SAS judges a well-deserved cup of tea ☕🥞

Once the cooking was finished, they also had to clean up 🧽

A massive congratulations to our four Cubs on their fantastic achievement! They showed teamwork, practical skills, determination and brilliant Scouting spirit throughout the competition.

We couldn’t be prouder of you all! 🌟💚⚜️

💚 VOLUNTEERING | COMMUNITY | SCOUTING 💚

Scouting is about so much more than badges, camps and adventures — it’s also about giving back to our community! 🌍🤝

Our Scouts and Explorers were invited to support Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All, helping out at the water station at 4km into the route. 🏃‍♀️💧

A HUGE thank you to everyone who got up bright and early to volunteer! 👏 Despite the early start, our young people got stuck in, helping hand out hundreds of bottles of water to the runners and cheering them on as they passed.

We’re incredibly proud of our young people for giving up their time, supporting others and showing what Scouting is all about. 💚💛

Volunteering helps our young people build confidence, develop teamwork skills and understand the difference they can make in their local community.

Once a Scout, always ready to help …. Especially when hot chocolate is in the offering!
