Hawks Explorer Scouts

Hawks Explorers had great fun doing their pioneering challenge in the woods at Turkey Carpet tonight!
They had to build natural playground equipment including a horizontal rope ladder, swings, a surfer swing and a carousel!
Lots of problem solving to find the right trees and follow the instructions with a few tweaks here and there!
They were really pleased with their builds and the best bit was trying them out...especially the carousel.

Thank you to Andy from the RNLI who visited Hawks tonight.
He gave a talk about the work that the RNLI do, and the kind of rescues they carry out.
In light of the recent number of young people who have lost their lives in cold water, Andy went through the types of situations that they might find themselves in and how to have the best chance of survival.
He showed us some of the kit that is used to keep us safe when doing watersports, and the importance of knowing how to maintain the kit.
He had brought some rescue throwing ropes for everyone to have a go with, the Explorers had mixed results to start with and some forgot to hold onto one end! After a few attempts and some determination they all did really well and became pretty accurate with the throws!

Hawks Explorers have a pioneering challenge in a couple of weeks, so tonight they learned and practiced a selection of knots, lashings and hitches in preparation!

Hawks went geocaching around Irton and Seamer last night!
We found 7 locations but 1 of the containers was missing so we couldn't log that one!
Some very inventive containers and hiding places 😄

A brilliant night working towards the Survival Skills badge!
Hawks Explorers were taught how to fillet a fish by our very own chef leader Ethan.🐟🐠
They prepared their fish then cooked them over a fire, they tasted delicious!
Most of them had never done this before and were pleasantly surprised by how good it tasted!
A great way to give them the skills and confidence to be more adventurous with cooking!

Hawks Explorers were set the challenge of a scavenger hunt this evening!
They scoured the neighbourhood for 30 items on their list, and each team had to send a photo to prove what they found.
Some very entertaining and inventive pictures! 😄

Hawks Explorers had a productive evening catching up with their current fundraising activities and then sewing badges onto some of their camp blankets 🧵🪡
It was great to see them trying very hard with the sewing, we did get quite a few sewn on! 😃

Hawkes were back at the Scout hut after our Easter break, celebrating Jake’s 18th birthday! 🎉

We enjoyed party games, plenty of pizza, and of course a birthday cake topped with 18 candles! 🎂

Happy 18th Birthday, Jake , we will all miss you at Hawkes! 😢

Hawkes wrapped up the Spring term in style with a trip to Olympia Leisure! 🎳🎯

From strikes on the bowling lanes to some friendly competition with interactive darts, it was a fantastic evening full of fun and laughter. A great way to celebrate the end of term together!

We also also invested Pippa, welcome to Hawkes Explorer Scouts.
