Helping families feel confident and prepared for winter.

NHS funding across Coventry and Warwickshire enabled Barnardo’s to support families across Warwickshire with practical, trusted advice through its winter wellbeing programme. From childhood illnesses and vaccinations to mental health, home safety and local support, families could speak directly to healthcare professionals through community sessions, online workshops and evening webinars.

MYTH: Your prescription is ready to collect as soon as your doctor sends it to the pharmacy.

FACT: Pharmacies need time to prepare your medication, so it may take a few days before it’s ready. Contact your pharmacy to let them know your prescription has been sent and check when you can collect it.

Did you know an engineering career could take you into the NHS?

For T Levels Week, we’re celebrating local students Seb and Connor, who have been putting their classroom learning into practice with the Medical Equipment and Bioengineering Services team at UHCW University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. From servicing and checking medical equipment to seeing how engineering teams work together, their placement has shown them how technical skills can play an important part in patient care.

For Seb, the experience has even inspired his next steps: “I’d like to try and do more work here and get a job or an apprenticeship… I think it would be quite a fulfilling thing to do.” We’re proud to support young people to experience NHS careers first-hand and discover where their skills could take them.

Cervical screening is one of the best ways to protect yourself from cervical cancer, so it’s important to take up your invitation when it arrives.

If you’ve missed your cervical screening, the NHS may invite you to take an HPV self-test instead. If invited, you can order a kit, take your sample at home or somewhere private, and return it free by post.

You can’t opt in to HPV self-testing – if you’re eligible, the NHS will contact you.

Flu can spread quickly among children at school and can make some children seriously unwell. Getting your child vaccinated at a community pharmacy helps protect them from flu and can also reduce the spread of the virus to their family, friends and wider community. If your child is eligible, look out for information from their school about their flu vaccination this winter.
