Did you know that people of African and Caribbean heritage are more likely to have the rare Ro blood subtype? 🩸

This blood type is especially important for people living with sickle cell disorder, who often require regular blood transfusions during treatment and crisis care. However, Ro blood is currently in high demand and short supply.

At yesterday’s Sew Nation, we not only learned new sewing skills and created comforting cushions for those experiencing sickle cell crisis, but we also opened up important conversations around blood donation, awareness, and debunking common myths surrounding giving blood.

Every conversation matters. Every donation matters. And every act of community care whether through sewing or donating blood can make a real difference. ❤️

Things got a little prickly at our sessions with the children at Allington School yesterday! 🌵☀️

With the hot weather bringing all the summer vibes, the children completed their very own sewn cactus projects and we absolutely love how they turned out! 🧵✨

From stitching them together to adding the final details, they showed so much creativity, focus, and patience. Safe to say these cactus creations were the perfect make for a warm day 💛

Whether you’re a complete beginner or just want to build your confidence, this workshop is all about learning new sewing skills, getting creative, and trying something new in a relaxed and welcoming space.

While you sew, we’ll also be exploring the importance of blood donation and how it can make a life-changing difference within our community 💛

All of the projects we create will be donated to local hospitals and sickle cell organisations, helping provide comfort and care to those who need it most.

We love a freestyle Sewcial 💛🧵

This month, the children and teens attending our Saturday Sewcials have been enjoying the freedom to freestyle their projects - choosing what they want to create, exploring their own ideas, and sewing at their own pace.

It’s been so lovely to see their creativity, confidence, and personalities shine through in every make ✨

With this week highlighting Mental Health Awareness Week, it’s also been a reminder of how important creative spaces can be for young people, offering time to slow down, express themselves, build confidence, and simply enjoy being present in a supportive environment.
