From Quiet Lunch to Grand Surprise, Joan and Ian’s Unforgettable Birthday Bash!

A delightful surprise awaited local Oddfellows members Joan and Ian as what began as a simple visit to Redruth’s Penventon Hotel turned into a memorable birthday celebration.

As the pair walked into the bar, they were met with an unexpected sight, a room filled with fellow Oddfellows members gathered especially for the occasion. The surprise was complete and the atmosphere quickly filled with cheers and laughter as everyone joined in a spirited rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

Organised by their friends at Oddfellows, the celebration featured a delicious fish and chip lunch, with mushy peas of course, enjoyed in the company of friends. The meal was accompanied by a glass of wine adding an extra touch of festivity to the occasion.

Joan and Ian were clearly touched by the thoughtful gestures.

Alongside a collection of birthday cards, Joan was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers while Ian received a bottle of whisky.

The celebrations were rounded off with a large birthday cake, proudly decorated with the Oddfellows’ insignia, the three links symbolising friendship, love and truth. Shared among friends, the cake provided a fitting conclusion to a truly special gathering.

Past Provincial Grandmaster Bill, who organised the event, said it was important to recognise and celebrate valued members. “We wanted to make sure Joan and Ian had a day to remember and to show our appreciation for their friendship and involvement over the years,” he said.

The celebratory atmosphere continued into the evening, when other members gathered at the Oddfellows Hall in Green Lane, Redruth, for a meeting of the Cornubian Oddfellows Lodge. The occasion was marked with a second rendition of “Happy Birthday” and a buffet, allowing even more members to share in the festivities.

It was a long and relaxing occasion, greatly enjoyed by all, and a testament to the strong sense of community within the Oddfellows, where friendship and kindness are always at the heart of every occasion.
