What a successful day for Rose and Linda who lead our Lucky Bag fundraising for our annual charity. This year we’re collecting for Redruth Memory Café and today the team were at Murdoch Day where they sold out of the wonderful bags with gifts for adults and children, all donated by our members. Today’s amazing total was £223.55. Congratulations ladies and thank you to everyone who helped fill or buy our bags. 😀

A truly inspiring talk today from Kate, founder of Flotsam Flo, about how she developed her amazing business and overcame all sorts of challenges, spurred on by the influence of another powerful, positive woman: her grandmother. We’ll be celebrating 68 years as a Townswomen’s Guild this Thursday with a lunch, then preparing for charity fundraising, with Lucky Bags on sale at Murdoch Day (Saturday 7 June) and our indoor Summer Cream Tea Fête on Monday 16 June. If you’d like to find out about our friendly group for all women, do send us a message. 😀

Thank you so much to members and friends who supported our Spring coffee morning today. We raised £106.50 for this year’s local charity, Redruth Memory Café and also celebrated member Susan Robert’s special birthday! A special thank you to Jill and Rob for letting us take over their home !

Our next main meeting is on Monday 19 May at Redruth Wesleyan Memorial Hall at 2 pm. Our speaker is Kate of Flotsam Flo, who will talk about her work creating wonderful bags and clothing from discarded plastics. We’ll also have free refreshments, a sales table of homemade bakes and produce and a raffle.

Our friendly group is open to all women and you can attend two meetings free to see if it’s for you. We also have a lunch club and an informal get-together as well as fundraising activities for local charities.

If you’d like to know more please send us a direct message or email us at [email protected]

Thank you to all the members who attended our Annual General Meeting this afternoon. It was a pleasure to present our cheque for £1603.60 to the past year’s Guild charity The Flicka Foundation Donkey Sanctuary to co-founder Laurie Stephenson, pictured here with Rose and Linda who did a brilliant job leading our fundraising Lucky Bag sales this year.
It was also lovely to present our Redruth Townswoman of the Year award to Sue Solway who organises our lunch club outings and has been a real support throughout the year. Congratulations!

Members also voted for our new annual charity: Redruth Memory Café, where some of our members volunteer.

Our next meeting, with a talk by Roger Bush on Agatha Christie, will be on 28th April (later in the month because of Easter timing). Members who were unable to attend can collect their new programme then. 😊

We’ll be tucking into a ‘faith tea’ on Monday - bringing something delicious and having faith everyone else will too! It’s to celebrate our Annual General meeting where we will elect our committee, review the past year, vote for Townswoman of the Year and agree on our new charity for 2025-6. Our meeting starts at 2 pm with a cheque presentation to The Flicka Foundation Donkey Sanctuary who have been this year’s cause. We’ll share pictures and our record-breaking total after the meeting. Looking forward to seeing as many members as possible at 2 pm, 17 March in Redruth Wesley Memorial Hall. If you’re not a member but interested in finding out about our friendly group that offers all women friendship, fun and support, do get in touch. You can DM us, use the comment section here or email us at [email protected] 😊

Our talk on Monday 17 February will be on Wanted Man, a book by our current Chair, that uncovered the forgotten story of an American outlaw and prison protester. We’ll have our usual raffle, sales table of homemade bakes and produce, and free refreshments. We meet at 2 pm in the Redruth Wesley Memorial Hall (off Sea View Terrace). All women welcome so do get in touch if you’re interested in joining our friendly group or just come along on Monday and say hello. 😊

Thanks to Treasurer Christine Barnes for this lovely photo of ceramics painted by some members at our recent outing to Create & Paint at Cornwall Gold. Strange how we managed to paint, chat and drink coffee at the same time but we are multi-tasking Townswomen!

The speaker at tomorrow’s meeting (Monday 20th January) is former reporter Robert Jobson taking about memorable encounters during his career- mainly human, we think... We’ll also have the usual raffle, refreshments and a sales table with homemade cakes and produce. We meet at 2 pm in Redruth Wesley Memorial Hall. Our friendly group welcomes all women and you can come to two meetings free before deciding if you’d like to join. 😊

Before and during, but not after, our indulgent Townswomen’s Guild Christmas lunch at Cornwall College’s wonderful Trevenson restaurant. Delicious food, friendly and attentive service and a lovely way to celebrate the festive season together before we meet again - for another lunch 😂 - on 3rd January 2025. Tamsin and the committee would like to wish all our members and friends a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

What an enjoyable start to the festive season at our Guild Christmas party. Thank you to our talented ‘Entertainment Team’: Susan, Margaret, Mary, and Jill for our splendid ‘Variety Show’ and to everyone who did their bit to create an afternoon of (sometimes chaotic) fun! We’ll see some of you next week at the Christmas lunch but wish all our members, present, past and maybe future a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎄
