Redruth businesses are invited to a free UKPAC sign-up event on Monday, 15th June at the Redruth Civic Centre from 5pm to 7pm.

UKPAC helps businesses report crime and anti-social behaviour quickly and securely, while improving communication and intelligence sharing between businesses and partners.

Businesses can currently sign up completely free for two years.

BBC Cornwall Radio Cornwall's James Churchfield will be hosting his radio show from Regal Redruth Theatre, Cinema, Restaurant & Bar tomorrow, Friday 29th. Sarah (RED Pottery and Tina The Art Room) will be talking about Totally Locally, women's health, creativity.... But the focus of the radio show this week is health.... There will be FREEEEEEE health checks run from 8 to 10 at The Regal Redruth Theatre, Cinema, Restaurant & Bar. Details below:
The health checks are run by the team from Healthy Cornwall and include a blood pressure check, a metabolic weighing machine that gives a much more detailed assessment of your bodyweight and machine to test lung capacity if you're a smoker. All of this is optional and you're not obliged to share the information. However, if you do share any it's a great way of enforcing the idea at the heart of the campaign to be open and frank about our health. The checks are open to anyone and everyone who may wish to take advantage of them between 8 and 10am.

Right… I’m going to put this out there.

We all see the comments about Redruth.
Empty shops. Nothing to do. “It’s not what it used to be.”

And look, I get it. Things have changed. High streets everywhere have changed. But what I don’t think we’re doing enough of is asking… what do we actually want it to be instead?

Because here’s the thing, there are already people in Redruth doing incredible work. People are trying. But it often comes down to small groups carrying a lot, and too often being criticised rather than thanked.

So I’ve organised something a bit different.

I’ve invited Hannah Sloggett from Nudge Community Builders to come and talk about how they’ve done things in Plymouth. Through a community benefit society, local people can collectively own and shape buildings and spaces. It’s genuinely community-led, with one member, one vote.

She’ll be sharing their experience of transforming parts of Union Street, and what it actually takes to make that kind of change happen.

But this isn’t just about Plymouth. It’s about Redruth.

If you could take on any empty building, what would you do with it?
What is the town missing?
Who isn’t being served right now?

I hear a lot of frustration online. This is a chance to turn that into something useful.

It’s 2.5 hours of your time. It’s free. You’ll meet people, hear what’s possible, and maybe start thinking about what you could do.

If you want Redruth to change, come along.
If you don’t, that’s also a choice, but it’s a bit harder to complain if you’re not part of the conversation.
