Ramsgate Community Cinema is up for BIFA Cinema of the Year 2026!

And we get to vote!

People in Ramsgate have really got behind this cinema and want to see it succeed. It still doesn’t have a permanent home, yet it’s managed to become an important part of the town.

Surely together we can back Ramsgate Community Cinema as a worthy winner?

Where else can you see beach screenings of family favourites alongside classics, running an affordable ticket scheme, and still managing to offer creative and technical workshops giving young people a way into filmmaking and the creative industries.

So if you have a minute, give Ramsgate Community Cinema your vote. It would be great to see a small community cinema from Ramsgate win this!

Summer might be nearly over, BUT there’s still time to get out and about! 😎

Until 31 August, children under 16 can travel for free by bus as part of the Great British Summer Savings scheme. 🚌

It’s a great opportunity for families to make the most of the last few days of the holidays. Whether that’s a special day out, having a beach day, tripping to Canterbury or one last Summer adventure!

So if you haven’t taken advantage of it yet, there’s still time.

We’re so lucky to have these beautiful public spaces on our doorstep. They’re part of what makes Thanet and Ramsgate so special. And we are lucky to have an Open Space team that works so hard to maintain these spaces.

A huge thank you to everyone involved it really does make a difference. ❤️

Feel even more motivated for a walk and wander around the neighbourhood!

🚨📢Good news for Thanet Bus Services

The £2 bus fare cap and 24-hour concession for disabled people from this Labour government are really welcome.

Councillors at Kent County Council must use the Government bus subsidy to invest in our bus network in Thanet. People need reliable and direct buses for work, health appointments, shopping, school and leisure. Good buses are vital for our economy and tourism.

🚨 A SMALL CHANGE THAT COULD MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE♿️🚌

Disabled people with concessionary bus passes can be unable to use them before 9:30am including to get to work

If we genuinely want to support disabled people into employment, this is exactly the kind of barrier we should remove.

Disabled people are commuters too.

Common-sense politics. A small change for many, but potentially life-changing for some. 💖

Progress in being made on ending dangerous small boat crossings with numbers down but there is more to do.

When the figures rise, Reform shouts from the rooftops. When arrivals fall by 42%, they blame the weather.

But the data shows crossings have fallen significantly even on favourable condition days.

There’s still loads more to do. The traffickers are moving to bigger boats and hundreds of miles further down the French coast because of the work we have been doing to disrupt them on the northern coast. It shows they have a complete disregard for human life and there is a catastrophe at sea waiting to happen.

So we need to adapt too. More disruption, more intervention, more arrests, more action on the pull factors here. And much more needed from the French. One boat leaving their shores is one boat too many when we have safe and legal routes to claim asylum, and they have passed through other countries on their way.

But for now the facts speak for themselves. Lots done, progress made. But lots more still to do.
