🎄Veterans Christmas Get Together🎄

For the 3rd year running, Invicta Lodge will be hosting the East Kent Mind Veterans Christmas get together.

On Saturday 5th December, 1-3pm, you and your partners are invited to join us for a free festive afternoon which includes a nibbles, drinks and this year we have local singer, Rubi Valentine, who has also promised us a live “name that tune”!

If you would like to join us, please let Karen Brinkman know, so she can book you in.
Thank you Lorraine from Churchill Living for once again supporting local Veterans.

Today our East Kent Mind Armed Forces Connector, Karen Brinkman was invited to help launch the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal at Westwood Cross alongside local cadet groups, Royal British Legion, Margate Branch and other invited guests including the Mayor of Margate, Mayor of Ramsgate, Mayor of Broadstairs, Jack Packman, Polly Billington MP and Lord-Lieutenant of Kent DL Clive Stevens.
Thank you and well done to the Margate Sea Cadets band who were fantastic as always and thank you to all the volunteers and appeal coordinators who work so hard in the lead up to remembrance.
So if you can, go find a poppy seller, pop some pennies in the pot and wear your poppy with pride whilst remembering those who didn’t come home. 🌺 Lest we forget 🌺

Fun was had at yesterday’s Poppy Club at Chartwell House Care Home.
Our Armed Forces Connector Karen joined resident and visiting veterans in poppy craft.
As always we were thoroughly spoilt by delicious cakes and refreshments and it was lovely hearing about the Commonwealth War Graves from Bruce.
Our next Poppy Club at Chartwell will be on Monday 14th December 5.30-7pm, with carols round the Christmas Tree, mulled w**e and mince pies.
Everyone is welcome, hopefully see you there!

Another busy morning and lots of special guests at the Broadstairs Veterans Coffee & Chat last Friday.
Great to see lots of conversations with TDC Covenant Champion Helen Whitehead and thank you to Social Enterprise Kent, KCC Adult Social Care, Specsavers and Blind Veterans UK for attending.
Paul Jacobs GM and myself are always grateful to Churchill Living for supporting this event.
See you all at next month’s Coffee & Chat on Thursday 19th November.

Just a reminder, this is where tomorrow’s Poppy Club will be happening, Chartwell House Care Home between 2.30-4.30pm.
Veterans and spouses are invited to join us for tea, cake or a glass of something and there will be some poppy craft activities for people to join in with if they wish.

Don’t forget next Friday 16th October is the Broadstairs Veterans Coffee morning with with free drinks and cake provided by Churchill Living, starting at 10am.
Paul Jacobs GM is looking forward to welcoming you all and we will have some visiting representatives from Adult Social Care & Health, Social Enterprise Kent community connectors and the TDC Armed Forces Champion responsible for the Covenant.

There is a date change for this Veterans visit to EKC Canterbury College. It will now be on Tuesday 17th November at 2.30pm. Please let me know if you’d like to meet us for tea & cake.

Calling all Veterans!
Students at EKC Canterbury College have once again been busy writing thank you cards for those who have served ready to hand out during Remembrance.
We will be dropping these off during November.
They have also been working hard on their wellbeing garden, painting and sowing poppies and would like to invite veterans and spouses to visit them on Tuesday 17th November at 2.30pm for tea and cake and to see the wonderful garden and work they have been doing.

It would be lovely to take some Veterans along and give the students the opportunity to meet those they have been thinking about and thanking.
