Meet us at the car park next to the playground on Highfield Road at 10am on Saturday 25th October for our next Litter Pick.

A fun couple of hours for all the family that also encourages good civic behaviour without being preachy!

We provide the equipment and ‘rewards’ for children taking part.

We recommend long trousers and good gloves as there are areas of rough ground and brambles

These two photographic portrait postcards of Christabel Pankhurst were produced by Kate Simmons of Cliffe Terrace, Margate. Christabel sat for photographer Kate Simmons (b.1878) in Margate during a tour of Kent in July 1910. On Saturday 2 July she spoke to a large crowd at the Theatre Royal. On Friday 1 July she had spoken at Ramsgate's Royal Pavilion and the day before that at Herne Bay. A few months earlier her mother had also addressed meetings at Ramsgate and Margate, a meeting that was disrupted by a group of young men who were, according to a local newspaper report, given short shrift by the speaker.
They come up for auction at Bonhams on November 20th.

Encouraging to see that a Ramsgate scene makes the cut as one of six 'coastal classics' selected by Dr Katheryn Ferry to be printed as a re-production vintage postcard from her own book on '20th Century Seaside Architecture. Less predictable though, it is not The Victoria Pavillion but St Lawrence Bandstand from 1926 that she chose - way before it was demolished to become the boating pool. of course.

For our next talk on April 24th we welcome John Ray to talk about the past and present saving of lives by the Ramsgate lifeboat crews.

His talk will cover the history and work of lifeboats at Ramsgate since 1802, including the unique role of Thanet’s lifeboats during Operation Dynamo.
