We are proud to join cadet units across the United Kingdom in celebrating the very first National Cadets Week.

His Majesty The King has recognised the vital role cadet organisations play in helping young people develop confidence, resilience, leadership and a sense of purpose, while making a positive contribution to their communities. The message also highlights the incredible dedication of the adult volunteers who give their time, energy and expertise to support the next generation.

At TS Bulldog, we see these values in action every week. Our cadets challenge themselves, learn new skills, build lasting friendships and develop the confidence to succeed both within the Sea Cadets and beyond.

We would like to thank all of our cadets, volunteers, parents, supporters and community partners for their continued commitment to our unit. Together, we are helping young people grow into capable, confident and responsible members of society.

Well done to every cadet and volunteer taking part in National Cadets Week. We are proud to stand alongside you.

Last night, cadets and staff of TS Bulldog had the fantastic opportunity and privilege of visiting HMC Vigilant, one of the Border Security Command's Offshore Patrol Vessels.

The visit gave everyone a fascinating insight into life at sea and the vital role played by the dedicated men and women who protect the UK's borders. The ship's company live and work onboard in demanding two-week rotations, remaining ready to respond to changing operational requirements at extremely short notice, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Did you know? • HMC Vigilant is over 42 metres long, making her one of the larger vessels in the Border Force fleet.
• She is capable of speeds of around 26 knots (approximately 30 mph).
• Vigilant can remain at sea for up to 14 days at a time, allowing her to patrol UK waters for extended periods.
• She carries a high-speed Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat (RHIB), which can be launched quickly for boarding and interception operations.

Our cadets were able to see first-hand how teamwork, professionalism, leadership and adaptability are essential qualities for those serving at sea. Experiences like these bring maritime learning to life and provide a valuable glimpse into careers and operations that many people never get the chance to see.

A huge thank you to the officers and crew of HMC Vigilant for taking the time to welcome us aboard, share their knowledge and answer our many questions. We are extremely grateful for your hospitality and for the important work you do in keeping our borders secure.

⚓️ UNIFORM AMNESTY ⚓

Were you once a cadet or volunteer with TS Bulldog and still have any Sea Cadet uniform tucked away in a wardrobe, cupboard, loft or garage?

If so, we'd be incredibly grateful if you could return it to the unit at your earliest convenience.
No questions will be asked, and nobody is in trouble!

We completely understand that life gets busy and uniform items can easily end up forgotten about over time. However, issued uniform remains the property of the Ministry of Defence and the Sea Cadet Corps, and while it is sitting unused, it cannot be issued to the next generation of cadets and volunteers who need it.

From tunics and shirts to combats, boots, caps, belts and badges, every item returned helps us reduce costs and ensure our current members can take part in training and ceremonial activities looking their best.

📍 Uniform Drop-Off

You can return uniform directly to the unit on:
Tuesdays and Thursdays - 19:00 - 21:10

If possible, please place a note in the bag with the name of the person to whom the uniform was originally issued so that we can update our records accordingly.

Thank you for helping us support both current and future members of TS Bulldog.

Please share this post so we can reach former cadets, volunteers and families. ⚓

This weekend saw the delivery of the first Introduction to Air R***e Coaching Course hosted by Crawley Unit and delivered by Southern Area.

It was a busy but highly rewarding weekend, with our own PO Eisinger among those taking part. The course focused on developing coaching skills that will help instructors get the very best from cadets on the range.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with everyone commenting on how much they enjoyed the course. One of the key takeaways was seeing firsthand just how much effective coaching can improve performance, turning a good day's shooting into a great one.

We are excited to see this training put into practice and the positive impact it will have on our cadets, not only in TS Bulldog, but Southern Area as a whole, as they continue to develop their target shooting skills.

A huge thank you to Southern Area for delivering the course, Crawley Unit for hosting, and all the Staff and Cadets who supported the weekend and contributed to the successful delivery of the training.

⚠️ Safety Remains Our Number One Priority
Target shooting within Sea Cadets is a highly regulated activity centred on discipline, precision, responsibility and safety. Every Cadet and Staff member receives extensive safety training and operates under the supervision of qualified Instructors, Coaches and Range Conducting Officers.

We are proud to teach not only marksmanship, but also the importance of safety, teamwork, self-discipline and personal focus, values that extend well beyond the range.

BZ (Well done) to everyone involved in an excellent and worthwhile weekend of development.

On Sunday 27th, our cadets took to the water at Minnis Bay Sailing Club and once again demonstrated fantastic enthusiasm, determination and progress throughout the day.

A huge congratulations to Leo and Arthur, who both successfully completed their RYA Stage 1 qualifications. Well done to you both on this great achievement!

Meanwhile, Jonty and Daniel continue to make excellent progress and are now working towards RYA Stage 3.

During the session, cadets gained experience sailing a variety of boats, including the Quest, Vision and Dart 16. The current all-time top speed recorded for that type of catamaran is 15.65 knots - on the day cadets managed 15.11 knots !! Exposure to different classes of boat helps develop confidence, adaptability and a broader range of sailing skills. Their next challenge will be progressing into single-handed dinghies, another exciting step in their sailing journey.

The progression of our cadets continues to be extremely impressive, and everyone at TS Bulldog is incredibly proud of what they are achieving. Looking ahead, we are excited for the 2027 sailing season, with ambitions to enter our first regattas in a number of years.

BZ (Well done) to all involved, and thank you to our instructors and supporters who make these opportunities possible.

Last night, cadets from TS Bulldog had the fantastic opportunity to visit TS John Jerwood, currently alongside in Ramsgate Harbour. With our own PO Eisinger serving aboard for the past two weeks as the ship’s Engineer, the team were given a unique behind‑the‑scenes look at life on one of the Sea Cadets’ dedicated offshore training vessels.

Cadets explored the engine room, learned about the ship’s machinery, and gained insight into the engineering routines that keep Jerwood operational throughout her training deployments. Experiences like this help cadets understand the real‑world skills used at sea — from teamwork and safety to engineering awareness and maritime discipline.

TS John Jerwood is a 24‑metre training ship purpose‑built for Sea Cadets. She regularly sails around the UK delivering week‑long voyages where cadets live aboard, learn seamanship, navigation, engineering basics, and experience life at sea as part of a working ship’s company.

Opportunities like this visit are a great reminder that cadets can apply for week‑long voyages on TS John Jerwood, TS Jack Petchey, TS Royalist, and other Sea Cadet vessels — gaining unforgettable offshore experience and nationally recognised training.

A huge thank you to the ship’s company of TS John Jerwood for hosting our cadets and supporting their development. The photo below captures just a small part of an inspiring evening.
