Neurodivergent Friends in Thanet

Neurodivergent Friends in Thanet Neurodivergent Friends in Thanet (NDFT) is a Community Interest Company (CIC) registered under the name Neurodivergent Friends CIC.

We are a Neurodivergent-led community group helping local Neurodivergent adults meet their peers in safe spaces, find community, support, and belonging, in Thanet & South East England. We help local Neurodivergent adults meet their peers in safe spaces. Our mission is to bridge the gap in local resources for Neurodivergent adults, working for positive change in mental health, well-being, community

, belonging, self-acceptance, and self-advocacy. We are an inclusive and intersectionality-informed organisation for Neurodivergents from all backgrounds, whether diagnosed, self-diagnosed or questioning. We welcome Neurodivergent adults from the Thanet and East Kent area of England. Neurodivergent Friends is 100% neurodivergent-led (this means that everyone working with us is Neurodivergent) and 100% community-led (this means that all the activities and ways we offer our activities are based on community feedback). We want to empower our community members to be at the centre stage of all our activities. Our work is targeted at Neurodivergent adults and not suitable for children. For safeguarding purposes, our events are 18+. We are not health professionals, social workers, therapists, mental health advisors, Neurodiversity researchers or any other official authority. We are simply a caring group of Neurodivergent adults trying to do something good for our local community. We offer free monthly social meetups for ND folks in Thanet, mainly in Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Margate. Follow us on social media on Facebook or Instagram, or sign up to our newsletter to receive update on when we are hosting our next event (links below.) While our work is not aimed at parents seeking advice as parents of ND children, ND adults who are also parents in our community are welcome to find connection with other ND parents. We have a private Facebook group which is is exclusively for Neurodivergent adults or questioning. To join, please follow the link below. You must answer all the questions to be granted access. If you are not Neurodivergent but would like to keep up to date with NDFT activities on behalf of a friend or family member, or to follow our work, we invite you to follow our instagram or pages and/or sign up to our newsletter (links available in our welcome pack linked below.) ☀️ Summer update from Neurodivergent Friends in Thanet ☀️

At the end of this month, we’ll be holding our final Coffee Morning before we take a short summer break across July and August.
You may hear a little less from us over June as we begin to wind down.
As a 100% neurodivergent-led organisation, working in ways that are accessible and sustainable for our team is really important to us. Taking a pause over the summer helps us protect capacity, support different needs, and come back refreshed for the months ahead 💛
We’ll be back in September, when our Coffee Mornings and Evening Meetups return!
Our admin assistant will be keeping an eye on our inbox in case you have any urgent queries over the summer.
In the meantime, if you know someone who’d love to hear about what we’re up to later this year, send them our newsletter sign-up link ✨
We hope you have a lovely summer — we can’t wait to see you again in September!
Sophie, Lux & Louis

Meet our new Co-Director, Sophie!

We're delighted to welcome Sophie Yates Lu into a new role in the NDFT team.

Many of you will already know Sophie from our social meetups, where they've been a Co-Facilitator since 2024 (and are often the friendly face handing out social battery stickers).
Sophie brings experience in community-led care, fundraising, and grassroots organising, and is passionate about supporting communities to come together and thrive.

We're so excited to have them on board. Please join us in giving Sophie a warm welcome! 🎉

Over the past year or so, the NDFT Creative Connection Club has been bringing together Neurodivergent people across Thanet to explore creativity, build confidence, and connect with each other.

In Broadstairs, we ran six monthly sessions from June to December 2025 at Queen’s Road Baptist Church, working with three local artists: Steph Dickinson, Hubert Zirconium, and Vicki Salmi. We tried out all sorts of things - from songwriting and soundscapes to sculpting, drawing, and weaving.

In Ramsgate, we ran two additional workshops in early 2026 with scientist and artist Carole Kenrick, exploring natural paint and ink-making using foraged materials.

During the workshops we asked participants what creativity means to them, and a lot of the answers came back to ideas of freedom, play, expression, and trying things out - having space to experiment, make mistakes, and see what happens. Community was described as feeling safe, supported, and connected, and being able to be yourself without judgement.

There was strong enthusiasm for future sessions, with suggestions including visual arts, music, writing, performance, and hands-on making - as well as trips and new creative experiences, and much more. We’re so glad that there is an appetite to keep this going. Please bear with us while we explore options for continuing the programme.
