We would like to pay tribute here to Resurge Africa’s most heartfelt fan and supporter, Walter Liao who has died in Canada last week after a short illness
As a charity our support comes in many ways, and one of the really significant ones is those individuals who follow and share awareness of what we do, and encourage the work and passion of the organisation. Walter was usually first to encourage, celebrate and respond to news and updates and posts from the charity. It is a reminder that what we do is built by and for individuals, we are a small charity that has done great things on the energy and commitment of amazing human beings.

A landmark moment for healthcare in Sierra Leone 🇸🇱

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the commissioning of the National Reconstructive Surgery and Burns Unit in Freetown, officially opened by the President of Sierra Leone. This vital new service represents hope, healing, and a major step forward in specialist care for patients across the country.

This achievement has been made possible through the generous support and collaboration of Leonoil, NP (SL), and Centurion Engineering, alongside the Ministry of Health, ReSurge Africa, Plastic Surgery and Burns Unit Korle Bu, Holy Spirit Hospital Makeni, Medical Aid International, Medigive, Korle Bu Foundation, BAHT, BSSH and Interburns. Together, this partnership has turned vision into reality.

The opening of this unit marks not just a new facility, but the beginning of expanded access to life-changing reconstructive and burns care. It reflects a shared commitment to strengthening healthcare systems and ensuring that services for the people of Sierra Leone continue to grow and develop into the future.

We remember those who lost their lives in the 2021 tanker disaster, and honour the legacy of ReSurge founder Martyn Webster, whose vision continues to inspire our work.
