❤️EVERYONE DESERVES TO FEEL SAFE

Behind every person we support is a story. A person who may have spent months or even years feeling afraid, isolated, controlled or unheard.

At Hope Prevails Preston, we believe that no one should have to face domestic abuse alone.

Sometimes, support begins with something as simple as listening. Sometimes it is helping someone find their voice, understand their choices, or take those first difficult steps towards a safer future.

We are here to remind people that what happened to them is not their fault, they are not alone, and there is hope beyond abuse.

Our mission is not just about providing support. It is about helping people rebuild their confidence, reclaim their lives and believe in a future where they can feel safe, valued and free.

This is why we do what we do.

Because everyone deserves the chance to live without fear.
Everyone deserves to be heard.
Everyone deserves hope.

🚩 FACT FRIDAY: Jealousy isn’t proof of love. Control isn’t romantic.

Love should make you feel safe, respected and free to be yourself💜

Jealousy is often portrayed as a sign that someone “cares” but when jealousy turns into checking your phone, controlling who you see, questioning where you’ve been, or making you feel like you have to change your behaviour to avoid conflict, it isn’t love. It’s control.

Healthy relationships are built on trust, respect and choice. Nobody should have to give up their independence, friendships, or freedom to prove they love someone.

If something doesn’t feel right, trust your feelings. You deserve a relationship where you feel valued, heard and safe.

❤️Love should lift you up. Not limit you.

💜 WHAT CAN SELF CARE LOOK LIKE?

Self care doesn’t always look like long baths, candles or taking a day off.

Sometimes, self care looks like getting out of bed when everything feels heavy.
Sometimes it looks like saying “no” without feeling guilty.
Sometimes it’s taking a moment to breathe, reaching out to someone you trust, or simply giving yourself permission to rest.

For someone who has experienced domestic abuse, self care can mean something even deeper.

It can be learning to listen to your own needs again.
It can be rebuilding your confidence.
It can be discovering what makes you feel safe.
It can be choosing yourself after being made to believe that your needs didn’t matter.

And sometimes, self care is simply reminding yourself:

“I have been through a lot, and I deserve kindness too.” ❤️

There is no right or wrong way to care for yourself. What matters is giving yourself the compassion, patience and understanding you deserve.

You have spent enough time putting yourself last.

This time, choose you. 🦋

💜 SELF CARE IS NOT SELFISH

Sometimes, when you have spent so long surviving, putting others first, or carrying the weight of someone else’s actions, it can be hard to remember that you deserve care too.

Self care is not a luxury. It is not selfish. It is not something you have to earn.

It is allowing yourself to breathe after holding on for so long.
It is giving yourself the kindness you always deserved.
It is recognising that your feelings matter, your voice matters, and you matter. ❤️

For survivors of domestic abuse, healing can begin with small moments of choosing yourself. A moment of peace, reaching out for support, taking time to rest, or simply believing that a happier and safer future is possible.

This Self Care Awareness Month, we want every survivor to know:

✨ You are not defined by what happened to you.
✨ You are worthy of love, respect and kindness.
✨ You deserve to feel safe.
✨ You deserve to put yourself first.

After everything you have carried, it is okay to care for yourself.
You are important. You are valued. You are worth caring for. 💞

💜 September is Self Care Awareness Month

For many people, especially those who have experienced domestic abuse, self-care can feel impossible. When you have spent so long focusing on surviving, protecting others, or putting someone else’s needs before your own, taking time for yourself can feel unfamiliar.

But self care is not selfish. It is a reminder that you matter too.

Healing does not always happen overnight. Sometimes it starts with small steps, taking a moment to breathe, reaching out for support, doing something that brings you comfort, or simply reminding yourself that you deserve kindness and care ❤️

This Self Care Awareness Month, we want to remind everyone that your wellbeing is important. You deserve to feel safe, valued, heard and supported.

✨ It is okay to rest.
✨ It is okay to ask for help.
✨ It is okay to put yourself first.
✨ Your story, your feelings and your future matter.

At Hope Prevails Preston, we stand alongside survivors and continue to support people on their journey towards healing, confidence and a brighter future.

✨ Be kind to yourself. You are worth caring for. ✨

💜 31 August – International Overdose Awareness Day

Behind every statistic is a person. A life. A story. A family who loves them.

For some survivors of domestic abuse, the trauma doesn’t simply disappear when the abuse ends. The fear, anxiety, shame and emotional pain can stay with them long after they have found safety.

Sometimes, people turn to alcohol or drugs as a way of coping with pain that feels too heavy to carry alone. It may become a way to numb memories, quiet fear, or escape feelings that seem impossible to face.

But survivors should never be judged for the ways they have tried to survive.

Today, we remember those who have lost their lives to overdose. We remember the families and loved ones left behind. And we stand beside those who are still struggling, reminding them that their story does not have to end here.

Domestic abuse is never the survivor's fault. Substance use does not make someone less deserving of compassion, safety or support.

💜 You are more than what happened to you.
💜 You are worthy of help without judgement.
💜 There is hope beyond the pain.

Today, we remember.
Today, we raise awareness.
Today, we remind people that no one should have to face their pain alone.

👶👧👦When someone questions your parenting, it can hit a very painful place.

You may feel the urge to explain yourself, defend every decision and prove that you are a good parent. But you don't have to enter into an argument just because someone has tried to provoke one.

Sometimes, a short, calm response is enough.

“The arrangements remain as agreed/as per the court order.”

You don't have to justify yourself. You don't have to respond to accusations with paragraphs. And you don't have to prove your worth as a parent to someone who is trying to make you doubt yourself.

Your children deserve peace, stability and safety, and so do you. 🩷❤️

If messages like these are part of a wider pattern of control, intimidation or abuse, you don't have to face it alone. Hope Prevails Preston is here to listen and support you without judgement.

💙 You don’t have to suffer in silence.

For many men experiencing domestic abuse, speaking out can feel impossible.

There can be shame. Fear of not being believed. Fear of being judged. The pressure to “be strong” or to believe that domestic abuse is something that only happens to women.

But domestic abuse can happen to anyone. Including men.

You may be a man who is being controlled, threatened, humiliated, isolated, financially controlled or physically or emotionally abused. You may have been told that nobody would believe you, or that you should simply “leave.”

We believe you. We see you. And we are here for you. 💙

At Hope Prevails Preston, we support male victims survivors of domestic abuse. You do not need to feel embarrassed, and you do not have to wait until things get worse before asking for help.

Taking that first step can feel frightening, but you don't have to take it alone.

📩 If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, reach out to Hope Prevails Preston. We are here to listen, support and help without judgement.

Domestic abuse has no gender. Neither does the right to safety, support and a life free from abuse. ❤️

💷 FACT FRIDAY: FINANCIAL ABUSE IS ABUSE.

Abuse isn’t always physical. It can happen through money, too.

Controlling someone’s access to money, taking their wages, stopping them from working, monitoring their spending, or creating debt in their name are all ways financial abuse can be used to control and isolate someone.

💜 Everyone has the right to financial independence, safety and control over their own money.

If you or someone you know is experiencing financial abuse, you are not alone. Support is available.
