This U3A was launched in Sept 2014. Membership is drawn from areas of North Plymouth and the edge of Dartmoor. As with all U3A groups we are self funding.

Welcome to Moor's Edge U3A. This new U3A was launched in September 2014. The U3A aims and objectives are to enhance the lives of people who are no longer in full time employment, by providing a network to develop social and interest groups. Meet up with others, perhaps learn something new, and have some fun! The group currently has :-
Monthly General Meetings are held at the Woolwell Community Centre, usually on the second Friday of the month at 2.30pm, we hope to have a guest speaker at every meeting, (see events, and calendar pages.) Interest groups are generated by the membership on a self help basis. Full Annual membership from Oct each year will be £15 single and £28 for two people living at the same address. You are welcome to come and join us at any of our meetings. Please see the Events or Calendar pages. We look forward to meeting you.

This month, Weekenders 2 were back on the Barbican, this time at the Pasta and Pizza Bar on Southside Street. The menu offered a good choice, and the meals were excellent value we all enjoyed our lunches.
Afterwards, some of us took the opportunity to make the most of this season's late, glorious sunshine with a walk around the Hoe. Others opted for the "grand tour" in the open-top bus!
Just a word of warning if you do visit the Pasta and Pizza Bar: the toilets are at the top of quite a steep flight of stairs; and the do expect you to work out your own bills.

Yesterday we enjoyed hearing from Terry about his varied career and inventions which all of us will have encountered. His inventions include the spring that helps car seatbelts retract and the posts with retractable straps that are used in queuing systems. To help people move along the queues he also invented the illuminated and voiced system that said 'Cashier number three please' ... so we had all heard him in the past. He is now a fiction author and living nearby in Tavistock.

More photos from our garden visit to Antony. The Robin seemed very happy to perch around the teepee and on the tables .... no doubt hoping we would leave a few crumbs!

Garden visits enjoyed a pleasant autumnal walk around Antony Woodland Garden, having a cuppa in the teepee first. Lunch was at Hearts in Torpoint and they kindly reserved a table for 10 in a side area.

At our October meeting our speaker will be Terry Green, he is a local business man and author. His second novel Dangerous Art has action moving between Burgh Island, Prague and Tavistock.

Due to holidays and various commitments, only 4 of our group met at Wembury car park.

Following coffee sat on the quirky stone seating outside the cafe, with it's views of the bay, we took the coastal path west towards HMS Cambridge. We stopped for photo opportunities, taking in the views including the Mewstone and Plymouth Sound along the way, and rested for a while at one of the benches where we spotted the Brittany Ferry coming in.

It was very pleasant walking weather and we returned to have lunch at the cafe after about an hour and a half walk. The pasties and scones were a definite success there. A walk we may return to in 2027 as some of the group were sad to miss it.

Weekenders 2's September visit was to The Market Inn in Tavistock. It's a small, friendly pub, that none of us had been to previously- but would certainly visit again! The lunch menu was fairly small, but had a good variety, from pizza to spicy rigatoni or roasted cauliflower steak. There's also a handy car park, which is a bonus in Tavistock; although most of us caught the bus from The George and walked through the park to the pub.

Why not come and meet us? We have a casual board games afternoon in September, or just enjoy a cuppa and a chat.

Short Walks went to Jennycliff starting the walk in showers and finishing in sunshine. There were some lovely views from the coastal path. The walk ended at the Jennycliff Cafe where the service was very speedy and the food good value and tasty! A few of the walkers paused at the Mr Whippy van for dessert on the way back to their car.
