Wednesdays are renowned for being “Hump Day”... but not on the Breaking Boundaries training course!

The team have been hard at work today, consolidating their personal skills and developing their knowledge of rigging, anchors, deviations, mechanical advantage systems, forces, and angles. They have also been learning a range of team rescue techniques and methods.

Everyone is doing a fantastic job on their Rope Rescue Operator Course, showing great commitment and enthusiasm throughout.

More to come over the next two days!

And we're off.......

Breaking Boundaries Cohort #2 have officially started their journey toward becoming Rope Rescue Operator Instructors.

We kicked things off with theory sessions covering regulations, equipment, maintenance, and inspection procedures. We also had a great presentation from Michelle at Rescue3, who outlined the instructor development pathway and what lies ahead for the team.

From there, we moved into the practical element of the course, focusing on personal rope skills including ascent and descent techniques, fall arrest and fall restraint. All done in the awesome training centre

The team took on a huge amount of information throughout the day and did an excellent job maintaining their energy, focus, and positive attitude throughout.

A fantastic start to the programme! We're looking forward to seeing their progress over the next four days!

The next cohort for Breaking Boundaries has been decided. There were some incredibly tough decisions and thoughtful deliberations in selecting the next group, due to the strength, talent, and inspiration shown by every woman who applied.

Massive congratulations to those who will be starting this journey with us in June, and a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to apply. The response was truly overwhelming, and we hope those who weren’t selected this time will apply again for the next intake.

Our West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team is taking on the International SAR Games – and they’ve been smashing it all day!

Now they need a final push…

🏆 The team with the most likes & shares by dinner time (Norwegian time!) wins the challenge.

Let’s get behind them and show some support—every like, every share counts!

West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team is going international 🌍

A small group of our volunteers will be traveling to Norway this week to compete in the SAR Games (24–26 April) – an annual international event testing real-world search & rescue and first aid skills.

From navigation and communication to casualty care, stretcher handling and teamwork, the challenges reflect the work we do right here at home in West Cornwall, where our volunteer team supports emergency services 24/7.

This marks our first time on the international stage, and we’re proud to represent West Cornwall while learning alongside teams from around the world.

As a volunteer-led charity, this is an incredible opportunity – and one we’re excited to take on, even if we’re not expecting medals this time!

It’s been a tough week marking all the fantastic applications for the 2026 cohort, the standard was incredibly high!

Invites to our selection day have gone out this morning.
If you received one, congratulations, we’re really looking forward to meeting you.

If you didn’t get an invite this time, please don’t be too disheartened. It was a very close decision, and we’d strongly encourage you to apply again for the next cohort (dates TBC).
