A great start to this year’s National Squad programme at EICA, Ratho.

Our first session was all about sharing experiences and thinking about where climbing can take us. Alongside plenty of bouldering, the group spent time reflecting on their own climbing journeys, what motivates them and what matters to them.

A big thanks to for joining us, sharing stories and insights from his own journey, getting stuck into the climbing, and even letting the squad put him through his paces on some comp style movement!

A relaxed, thoughtful and really positive way to kick things off! Thank you everyone for you efforts, thanks and the team for the set and thank EICA for hosting us!

Rockfall at Wolfcrag ⚠

Rockfall at Wolfcrag Quarry ⚠️

There has been a significant rock fall at this popular crag at Bridge of Allan, near Stirling. This has left a very unstable block at the top of the rock face, that could come down at any moment. The area has been cordoned off and we advise everyone to keep clear for the time being.

Catriona, our Access & Environment Officer, has been in touch with the Access Officer at Stirling Council, who own the land. She has confirmed that, at the request of their Engineering Team, the site will remain cordoned off for safety reasons until their Senior Engineer has assessed the site and made a longer term plan.

Catriona has asked that we’re kept updated and that the climbing community, as well as the local community, is included in their consideration and in any community consultation that takes place.

We’ll update you when we know more.

We are aware of the recent discussion on UKC regarding the placement of bolts at Creag Dubh near Newtonmore and that recent bolting activity in in the North has once again sparked passionate debate about the place of fixed equipment in Scottish climbing.

As Scotland's national representative body for climbers and mountaineers, our role is not to regulate climbing or police behaviour. Scottish climbing has always been built on self-regulation, shared ethics and community responsibility and that is one of its greatest strengths.

Our current guidance is available to view and download from our website.

As this was last revised in 2013, over the coming months, we will consider how best to engage with the climbing community to review our current position statement and ensure it remains relevant, understood and supported by the broadest possible range of climbers.
