Our Community Archaeologist, Tertia Barnett, was recently out in the field with volunteers.

That's not all though - they were recording a newly discovered rock art panel near Aberfeldy as part of the Lost Stones of Strath Tay project.

Incredible stuff! Let sus know in the comments if you were involved or if you have any photos of your own.

Hello and welcome back to another Monument Monday, today we'll be looking our most recently added monument, MPK21548.

MPK21548 was spotted in a wall by Findlay, our Historic Environment Record officer, whilst on a site visit. Do you recognise where? Answers on a postcard!

The stone appears to be a truncated example of a marriage lintel, taken from a earlier building. Marriage lintels were a popular custom across Scotland in early modern era, commemorating a marriage by listing the year and the initials of the newlyweds. Sadly, MPK21548 appears to be missing the second set of initials, leaving us only with I B ("I" in early modern inscriptions usually standing for a "J"), and the year 1700.

There are several examples of these marriage lintels across Perth and Kinross, keep an eye out and you might just see one in your own town.

Last Friday our Historic Environment Record officer, Findlay Young, met with Dr. Rhona Ramsay and Fiona, a member of the local GRT community, who both volunteer at the City Archives, to discuss historical Gypsy Traveller sites and how these can be better recorded in the Perth and Kinross Historic Environment Record.

Gypsy Traveller sites are under documented and often overlooked despite these places, and the people who lived there, playing major roles in the history of our places.

We'd like to thank Fiona and Dr. Ramsay for taking the time to meet with us, and we look forward to future working collaborations together.
