We’re thrilled to be the chosen charity for Torbay’s The Big Noise Chorus Christmas concert this year. The concert takes place on Saturday 12th December at St Matthias Church, Babbacombe, Torquay.

The evening event will see the 120-strong community choir performing a joyful mix of seasonal tunes, Christmas favourites and pop classics. They’ll be joined by a special guest - young soloist Josh Blake - who will add his own special sound to this festive occasion. Plus, there’ll be an opportunity for members of the audience to join in and sing along to the festive tunes and share in the warmth and spirit of Christmas, too.

Refreshments including home-baked cakes and sweet treats will be provided from 6:45pm by the volunteers of Citizens Advice Torbay. And, because it’s Christmas, there’s a Chocolate Tombola with prizes to enable winners to stock up on even more chocolate treats in time for Christmas!

As a pre-concert taster, we were invited to listen to the choir as they rehearsed some of the beautiful pieces they'll sing on the night. We also chatted with some of the choir members and heard a little bit about the choir and their preparations for the Christmas concert. Late October saw Hoopers department store in Torquay premiere the latest autumn fashions to a group of specially invited guests.

The event combined a glass of fizz, a buffet and a fashion show, along with a raffle to raise funds for Citizens Advice Torbay (CAT). Sue Julyan, CAT’s Chief Executive Officer, gave an informal overview of how her team of staff and volunteers at the independent charity offers free, impartial and confidential advice to the local community.

Guests were treated to a showcase of stylish fashions from Hoopers' new autumn collections, previewing the season's latest trends for women aged 50+. From luxurious knitwear and tailored separates to stylish padded coats and occasion-wear, the collections from Whistles, Phase Eight, Betty Barclay and Oui combined comfort, quality and timeless elegance.

Hoopers' Manager, Trudi Knapman, expertly MC’d the show and commented, “It was a lovely afternoon. We were able to show a selection of our lovely new autumn collection all while raising funds for a local charity. We’re proud to support the Citizens Advice Torbay team and all the important work they do to help people in Torbay.”

The event raised over £600 for CAT. In the run up to Christmas, the CAT team is now busy preparing for their next charity fundraising event – a joint concert at St Matthias Church in Torquay on 12th December with The Big Noise Chorus.

The LGBT Armed Forces Ban between 1967 and 2000 banned LGBT+ people from serving in the Armed Forces.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been running a number of recognition schemes for people directly affected by the ban, with people who were affected by the ban while serving in the armed forces able to apply for financial compensation of up to £70,000, along with other non-financial restorative measures.
