We’re still buzzing from last weekend’s Powered by Youth!

We are so incredibly proud of all the young people who shared their ideas, creativity, experiences and hopes for Torbay 💛

A huge thank you to all the organisations and people who helped make the day happen, from those who took on the Do Your Thing engagement work in the lead-up, to those delivering detached youth work-style sessions in community centres, parks and spaces across Torbay, creating opportunities for young people to have their say in ways that work for them.

And thank you to everyone who spent their Saturday with us, especially those with decision-making responsibilities, influence and a role within the systems we want to make better for children and young people. We really appreciate you showing up, listening, asking questions and being part of the conversation.

Powered by Youth is about more than listening to young people. It’s about connecting their voices with the people, organisations and systems that have the power to act.

There are far too many people and organisations to thank individually, but here’s a huge ❤️ to everyone who played a part:

🌟 A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR INCREDIBLE YOUTH LEAD, ANGEL! 🌟

Today, our wonderful Angel received the Community Star Award at the Children and Young People Awards — and we honestly couldn’t be prouder. ❤️

Angel is one of those very special people who doesn’t just work with young people — she genuinely cares about them, believes in them and makes them feel seen.

Since joining us last year as a volunteer, Angel has gone from strength to strength. Her passion, kindness and determination to make sure every young person feels safe, valued, included and heard has made such a huge difference to the young people in our community.

What started as volunteering has grown into something truly amazing. Angel now runs three weekly youth clubs, our weekend youth multisports sessions, and is already planning even more sessions, activities and workshops for our young people.

But the numbers and the sessions only tell part of the story.

The real impact of Angel is in the young people who walk through our doors feeling shy, uncertain or perhaps like they don’t quite belong — and leave feeling welcome, listened to, supported and proud to be themselves.

It’s in the friendships she has helped create.
It’s in the confidence she has helped build.
It’s in the opportunities she creates.
And it’s in the countless young people who now know there is an adult in their corner who genuinely believes in them.

Angel, we appreciate you more than you will ever know. Your energy, compassion, commitment and huge heart make such a difference to our community, and we are incredibly lucky to have you as part of our team.

You started with us as a volunteer, but you have become such an important part of what we do — and we cannot wait to see all the amazing things you continue to achieve. 🥹❤️

So please join us in giving our incredible Angel the biggest, loudest, most well-deserved round of applause! 👏👏👏

📣 Powered By Youth is back this SATURDAY 26 SEPT across People's Parkfield for another year, but don’t assume we’re simply picking up where we left off.

SO much has happened in the last year.

When young people shared their experiences, ideas and hopes with the people and systems that can help make change happen, those conversations didn’t just disappear into a report.

Exciting news - we're extending the deadline to nominate for the Children & Young People Awards!!!

✨ The new deadline is Tuesday 22 September 5pm ✨

If you know someone up to the age of 25 that you think makes a difference to you, to your community, to Torbay, in whatever way that may be, and you think they should be recognised...GET VOTING!!

Nominees will be invited to a special evening as part of this year's Powered by Youth event on Saturday 22 September. There will be fun, food, music and space to celebrate the incredible children & young people contributing to our community ⭐️
