Meet our team:

- Makenzie Ferrier MSc

Makenzie is one of our two founders and current shop manager at The Nature Nook. He has a MSc in Conservation and a passion for all animals, domestic or otherwise. In his free time he is a keen crafter; many of our collars, bandanas and hammocks were made by him! You'll find him behind the counter with Jimbo the Amazon parrot most days a week, probably sharing some food.

- Alex Woods

Alex is the second of our two founders. While she has unfortunately had to step back from the business for the foreseeable future, she was still instrumental in it's birth and helped to make the store what it is today. She currently works at Paignton Zoo as a zookeeper, working in the reptile and amphibian section! She is also an amateur wildlife photographer and total parrot enthusiast. If you pop into our store you'll get to see her two conures in our aviary, Heidi and Rumple!

Poor Sabrina

29/10/2026

After another extremely quiet week in the shop I've been working hard on other projects to attempt to scrape some money together to pay everything that needs to be paid and I can report that we have managed to pay off this months electricity bill and most of our rent for the month which I genuinely didn't think we would be able to do!!! Thank you so much to everyone who purchased a pet portrait, pre-ordered Christmas products or made a little donation, it all makes such a huge difference.

We still have several big outstanding bills to pay but it feels like I can breathe out just a little which is incredible. My goal for the next few months is to pay everything off and get us back into a more stable position in time for the new year- we'll see how plausible that is!

We also really need to fundraise to buy a bigger dehumidifier to keep the place dry over the winter so that's the next thing on the list.

As a reminder, here are some of the options we have if you'd like to contribute:

- Our raffles! You can enter these from just £1. We currently have a raffle for a steamdeck, a beautiful wooden rabbit hide, and I'll be launching another switch 2 raffle in time for Christmas! We pay for all of these prizes so we can't draw them until we reach the threshold to be able to pay for them

- My terrible pet portraits! Black and white versions are 2.50 and color ones are 4.50

- Pre-order an advent calendar or a Christmas box ready for pick-up or delivery in November

Donations can be made via PayPal: [email protected]

via bank transfer:
