Measuring young fish, paddling, river-dipping, angling, dancing and having a good time along the Thames Path National Trail at Strand-on-the-Green today. Tidefest is the annual one-day festival of all things River Thames. This year it included students from UCL Dept of Biochemical Engineering with their project to use shellfish waste to clean up chemotherapy-contaminated water! Swim London led races from Brentford to Putney. Strand-on-the-Green Association held a fun-packed community street-party.

Walks along the Thames Path National Trail starting from the new Bazalgette Embankment at Blackfriars on Friday 11th Sept and Friday 25th Sept will lead you to discover layers of London history. The Thames Path is diverted between Culham and Clifton Hampden in south Oxfordshire for approximately 18 months while contractors build a new bridge across the Thames linking Culham Campus with Didcot.

The Thames Path diversion route is signed locally with blue and white arrows. There are several OCC maps on posts along the route that show the diversion route in green.

The A415 has speed restrictions, roadworks and traffic lights associated with the construction of a new roundabout at Culham Campus. The footway is shared space with cycles. Oxford Bus Company service 45 operates along the A415 on weekdays only.

Have you considered applying for an Active Thames Fund grant? Apply now for grants to help deliver projects that get more people active on the tidal Thames and inland waterways through London, Essex and Kent. Blue space can often be overlooked – this funding opens up access to water and enables clubs and community groups to deliver impactful projects.

The Active Thames Fund managed by the Port of London Authority supports ambitious projects that use waterways, and the riverside walks including the Thames Path National Trail, to improve health and wellbeing, develop skills, and help more people enjoy the benefits of being active on and around the water.

📌 This year's funding round will prioritise projects that engage under-represented communities and develop the skills of coaches, volunteers and support staff. Applications close on 27 September.

The footpath was open during the Bank Holiday weekend, as friends Karen Bartlett from Staines and Jo Lacey from Kent discovered. They started their Thames Path walk in Grain at Easter, and will soon finish in Oxford.
The diversion route map is displayed on nearby posts, and is on interactive map. Footpath Closed sign now installed.

Discover beautiful riverside Twickenham on guided walks every Sunday in September. Join Twickenham Riverside Trust to explore hidden gems with the help of paintings and photographs of this 'seaport in miniature' as Horace Walpole described Twickenham 250 years ago.

Using extensive visual references, this series of hour-long guided walks (leaving at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm on all four Sundays in September), traces the footsteps of fashionable and influential Georgians as well as working watermen, showing their visible traces still present on the riverside.

Poets and princes, naked ladies and rock gods, artisans and river folk - all will be making an appearance on this stroll along the river from Twickenham’s working Embankment to the Georgian splendour of Marble Hill House.

Join us on a FREE guided walk celebrating 30 years of the Thames Path National Trail. Choose from a walk through the meadows to the Source near Kemble, a meander around marvellous Marlow, or an riverside stroll to Iffley Meadows in Oxford.
The walks are FREE, but please sign up using the form (link below). The walks will be led by Clare, the Thames Path Engagement Officer, who is First Aid trained and a qualified walk leader.
