The boardwalk beneath Brunel's Moulsford Viaduct was repaired yesterday, just in time for these four friends: Phil, Terry, Gill and Karen to stop by on their Thames Path Walk.
Big thanks to the Thames Path volunteers Bob ('measure twice') and Gordy ('this is just enough') along with Roger who coordinates all the tasks the volunteers carry out, and looks after the tools. Moulsford Boardwalk: Done ✅

Congratulations Henley Town Council's parks keepers, Greener Henley and Henley in Bloom on the top award for Town category in this year's RHS Britain in Bloom.
The Nature of the Thames mural, painted by artist Vickie Amiralis, on the Pavilion at Mill Meadows is one of the colourful features in Henley. Vickie's designs include trees, flowers, birds and insects people can see along the Thames Path National Trail, from the source to the sea.

Three more Poems along the Thames Path by Robert Seatter can be read from QR codes installed at Bell Rope Meadow in Cookham, Caversham Lock in Reading and Millstream bridge in Goring. Thank you Andy and Julia in Cookham, Bob and Alex in Reading, and John with a keen poetry-lover in Goring, who put these QR codes signs up recently.

Each poem refers to the well-known artists associated with these Thames-side locations:
🖌 20th century painter Sir Stanley Spencer in Cookham,
🖋 poet, playwright and aesthete Oscar Wilde who was incarcerated in Reading Gaol,
🎸singer-songwriter and world-famous pop-culture icon George Michael who lived in Goring.

Black Poplar trees are very distinctive in the landscapes of the River Thames, mainly because there are so few of them! A new project is fund-raising to restore Black Poplars through the Thames valley by using DNA tests to identify suitable Black Poplar trees for propagating and then planting.

The Swindon to Oxford: Regenerating the Thames and Tributaries partnership is aiming to raise £20,000 to identify the area’s remaining trees through DNA analysis, propagate genetically diverse cuttings and plant a new generation of Black Poplars along the River Thames and its floodplain.

The campaign will work with landowners and local communities to identify suitable sites for Black Poplar cultivation and planting, and create a connected network of new trees along the Thames, helping to restore a species that's been part of the landscape for centuries.

The project secured funding from West Oxfordshire District Council and the Vale of White Horse Council to kickstart the project. This fundraiser is match funded by the Oxfordshire Local Nature Recovery Strategy up to £10,000, meaning up to that threshold for every pound donated the project will receive two pounds.

Celebrate Oxfordshire Day, also known as St Frideswide’s Day, commemorating the death of the patron saint of Oxford on 19th October in 735. The beautiful stained glass window designed by Edward Burne-Jones is in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, where the body of St Frideswide lies beneath the priory founded in her name.

'View from Cookham Bridge' painted by Stanley Spencer in 1936. And the view from Cookham Bridge in 2026 after a very large willow tree fell recently.

Julia Weston from the Stanley Spencer Gallery is pictured with Andy, who walks beside the River Thames most days. He stopped by to help install a QR code sign for Robert Seatter's poem 'Some days, Cookham'. Thank you Andy!

Take stroll along the Thames Path in Cookham this autumn to enjoy the gorgeous colours of the countryside as the leaves turn gold and bronze, read Robert's poem from the QR code, and then visit the Stanley Spencer gallery to see the paintings that inspired the poem. .

Spencer's painting 'View from Cookham Bridge' is in the Gallery's Collection, and a popular postcard in the shop.

What do you think of the proposal to create a new temporary route for the Thames Path between Hurley and Marlow? The potential new route was displayed at a public information event hosted by the Environment Agency at Marlow Rugby Club on Friday 16 October.
The route requires permissions from private landowners as well work by the Environment Agency to widen weir walkways and provide alternatives to steep steps.

The current diversion route is from Hurley on public rights of way and Temple Lane to Bisham and Marlow. It is signed locally and the route is on the Thames Path interactive map.
