New Principles of the HCV Approach just published!

Why new Principles?
The Principles will serve as reference for how the HCV Approach is applied. They also provide consistency across various contexts, geographies, commodities and scales.

What we’d like, and what defines the overarching goal of these Principles, is to ensure that they are considered by those who use the HCV Approach as both fundamental to their ways of working, and necessary for the achievement of fair and sustainable outcomes and impacts.

Today is International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, and the theme for this year is “Indigenous youth as agents of change for self-determination”.

At least a quarter of the world’s land area is owned, managed or used by Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLC). This is why it is important to include and engage IPLC in decision making processes that might affect them or the resources they rely on.

The HCV Approach can contribute to mainstreaming biodiversity in decision-making processes, whereby the voices and worldviews of IPLC are heard, and a broader set of nature’s values are integrated into political and economic decisions.
