Who is Chris Wilder?
Chris Wilder, is a UK producer, director, educator, and magician. With a passion for both performance and education, his work is to “champion and celebrate the art and
performance of magic” through the teaching and training of magic performers, and growing a public understanding of the art form, through the creation of
live shows and events.
He is a Member of The Magic Circle, and within the magic industry is best known as the producer and director of The Curious Cabaret. Other notable works include; The Conjurer’s Collection - a team puzzle experience based around the Golden Age of Magic; theatrical close-up shows Legerdemain, and Sleight; and Stagecraft - a series of practical workshops designed to help magicians develop skills for creating rich and original works of magical theatre and performance.
The Lecture: MAGIC, DIRECTED
How directors, producers and performers create impossible moments.
In this lecture, we will explore how thinking
beyond the trick can transform the way magic is experienced by an audience as well as discussing how to transition from performing close-up to larger group or stage settings.
Through practical examples from his own
repertoire, Chris will discuss staging, production value, audience attention, timing, and practical theories on misdirection. We will see how seemingly small decisions can make a magical moment considerably stronger. Expect hands-on exercises, ideas that can be applied to your own performances immediately, and a selection of tricks and routines suitable close-up or parlour.
