Yesterday at ELF, I set the children the task of creating a fact file about an animal.
They could design it however they wanted and they were working in groups of three.

I always find it really interesting to watch what happens and listen to the conversations, you learn so much!
Most of the groups told each other what ‘job’ they were doing and worked individually to complete their task. There was one group which had three strong characters all with clear opinions and confidence - this was a challenge!
Some children didn’t really contribute and chose to do their own thing whilst others focused on managing feelings of frustration.

Such an important part of our ELF sessions as the children begin to understand so much about themselves and others. With support and guidance they are able to learn some valuable life skills.

Making our own ‘lift the flap’ quiz books
Exploring and calculating times tables
Challenging ourselves to find the patterns
Prediction and investigating absorbency
Working as a team
Logical thinking to find solutions

We also found time to watch the squirrels, climb the trees, share some books and build some interesting Lego creations.

A powerful message that we embed into all our ELF sessions.

So important that our children hear, see and learn this as a foundation to thrive and grow with confidence and self-belief.

Adults need to hear it too.

One of the important values I wrote down when I first created ELF was “to develop a community, a sense of belonging”.

Our parents have created exactly that - they support one another in so many different ways - a listening ear, opportunities to connect, sharing resources, gifting items, it is heartwarming 💜🙏🏻

This week at ELF has very much focused on

Reconnecting
Coming back together
Strengthening friendships
Remembering where we belong
Settling into our space again
Chatting and laughing
Welcoming new visitors
Smiles, hugs and love 💖

We have also played together, worked together, been creative and enjoyed a happy couple of days.
It’s so important to allow children to reconnect with one another in their own time, in their own way - it means they can experience the emotions related to connection, friendship, trust, safety and belonging so they become more aware of themselves and what they need.
