IPA Japan has announced an initiative entitled ‘Friendship Judo Week 2027🥋– IZA, KAMAKURA’ and has opened registration for participants.

https://ipa-international.org/events/ipa-japan-friendship-judo-week-2027/

The final destination of this event is Kamakura, which served as the political centre during the Kamakura period (12th–14th centuries), a time when samurai became the central figures in Japanese politics and values such as loyalty to one’s lord, courage and honour—which would later form the basis of Bushido—began to take shape.

At a time when the world was witnessing events such as the Crusades, the rise of Saladin, the establishment of the Mongol Empire and the enactment of the Magna Carta, Japan was entering the Kamakura period, and a samurai-led government was emerging.
This event bears the subtitle ‘Iza, Kamakura!’, the rallying cry used by samurai of the Kamakura period as they rushed to Kamakura in times of crisis for the shogunate, and is designed as a programme in which participants journey from Yokohama to Kamakura in the true spirit of a samurai.
Even today, the expression ‘Iza, Kamakura’ is used as a metaphor to convey the following:
* Being prepared for when the time comes
* Taking immediate action in an emergency
* Rushing to the scene in a crisis situation
These align with the mindset expected of police officers.

Why not learn about the spirit of ‘Bushido’ and the philosophy of Japanese police officers?
Participation is limited to holders of 1st to 3rd dan, but the aim is to recruit those with experience in judo.
Please contact the organisers for further details.
We hope that IPA Japan can contribute to world peace.
