Bound for Ukraine 🇺🇦.. Donald Loe presenting a generator donated by the members of Northampton RC and Stephen Coombs from St Christopher’s Care Home Abington hygiene products , at Rotary Club of Northampton Becket’s breakfast meeting today. With President Jackie Barnaby and David Smith who is coordinating Beckets 3rd Ambulance project to deliver humanitarian aid departing in September. A super hybrid meeting with Hanna Levon from the Ukrainian Rotary Impact Club of Rutland as guest speaker. Hanna described how the Impact group was formed by Ukrainian families forced to move to the U.K. at the start of the war. Its aim is to support both their local community and provide medical equipment aid to Ukraine.

We welcomed many guests and visitors to our speaker evening, with Janet Midega talking about her work with the Wellcome Trust worldwide, monitoring infectious diseases and epidemiology. Enthusiastically Janet spoke of Wellcome’s vision - a healthier future for everyone.

Infectious diseases are one of the biggest health challenges in the world today. They cause around 9.5 million deaths every year and disrupt daily life across society. But the impact is not equal. The world’s poorest communities face the highest rates of illness and death from infectious diseases – yet often have the least access to innovation and care. These are diseases of inequity, and drug resistance and climate change threatens to make the situation worse.

Using science to deliver vaccines and treatments that make a difference where they’re needed most – by focusing on the people and places most affected and driving progress in neglected or stalled areas.

We are very proud to have Janet as a member of our Club …. hardworking, determined, and a talented health research professional.

Meeting up this afternoon with our 2026 RYLA candidate Tazmin Bray… at Grafham Water Activity Centre. A special young lady enjoying lots of new challenges and opportunities … the 50 candidates have started bonding, become room and team mates… and are in good spirits. Lots of fun today. raft building and out on the calm water.

After the driest couple of months in Northampton… there’s still lots to enjoy in the Peace garden.. with colourful purple geraniums and statuesque fennel plants growing around the many sides of the peace pole. It’s a cooler place to sit and spend time quietly out of the hot bright summer sunshine.

Delighted that Dominica Pradere from the Rotary Club of Montego Bay Jamaica, was able to join some of our members for lunch. A great friend of Northampton Rotary Club, it was good to catch up on all things Rotary with her, and share the different ways we achieve similar outcomes. We have been helping our RYLA candidate get ready for the upcoming week long residential experience at Graffham Waters activity centre. Rotary Youth Leadership Award courses are held worldwide, and vary in duration …with the same goals of developing personal confidence, teamwork and conflict resolution skills.

We are very pleased to support ‘The Summer Reading Challenge’ again in 2026.
Literacy enables communication, and the ability to make sense of the world using text, numbers, and digital tools.

WOW! We just had the most AMAZING time at our Silent Disco, with a full house of children (and some adults!) dancing away in the library! A big thanks to The Silent Disco Project CIC for hosting and an even bigger thank you to Northampton Rotary Club for supporting our Summer Reading Challenge again this year and making sure we can offer events like this!
