We have regular meetings to plan and coordinate our activities, enjoy friendship and fun, whilst making a difference by giving back through Rotary International.

World Polio Day 24th October 2026… A powerful image beaming out over Northampton from the University of Northampton tower, part of the University’s Energy Centre lit up in purple light. The UNO tower is landmark feature of the campus and the town.

The colour Purple is symbolic… as young children receiving a polio immunisation on a National Immunisation Day have their little fingers marked in purple…so that the immunisation teams know they have been immunised.

Many thanks to Robert Brame for the super photo taken this evening and to Tree Brehem’s for her help in scheduling our World Polio Day display.

The purple lighting this week raises awareness of Purple for Polio and also Postural Tachycardia Syndrome.

The 12m LED screen, incorporated in the 26m tower is a key aspect of the University’s digital screen network which extends through the Campus.

Brilliant…Over 150,000 steps 🏅🏅Dawn’s 40,000 Challenge in aid of EndPolioNow achieved an amazing personal best from 1070 DG Dawn Denton today of 40,114 steps walked, supported and cheered on by accompanying walkers Conrad 20,000, Chris 10,000, David 10,000, Richard 10,000, Lynn 5,000, Donald 5,000, Nick 10,000, Jan 5,000, Jackie 4,000 and Alan 10,000. 👏👏👏

Jeanette Walsh, Northampton’s own Mother Christmas joined our chatty lunch meeting this week. Our members annually support Jeanette’s challenge to source and provide Christmas gifts to over 6,000 vunerable children and young people in Northamptonshire. Please support Jeanette in her endeavours… we focus on donating gifts for teenagers.

On Saturday 24th October 2026, our Rotary District Governor Dawn Denton will be undertaking a “walking challenge” in aid of the End Polio Now campaign. Between 10:00am and 4:00pm, Dawn will be walking 40,000 steps, mainly around Abington Park, Northampton (NN1 5LW), demonstrating determination, commitment, and resilience to raise funds for a fantastic cause. We will have a Rotary gazebo near The Park Cafe - Abington Park Supporting Dawn’s fundraising walk will help to protect children around the world with a life-changing polio vaccination. Come along on the day and lend support and/or walk alongside Dawn. Let us now if you are coming.

Our Polio Champion Brian May gave an excellent presentation to the members of Montego Bay Rotary Club Jamaica, at their online meeting this week.. As we approach World Polio Day on 24th October, it was good to hear how Rotary continues in its promise to the children of the world to eradicate Polio together with world organisations and countries.
