The Newbury Soup Kitchen is a voluntary organisation providing help and support to the Newbury homeless community and those less fortunate than others.

Food provision sessions, bespoke support and outreach throughout the week for people experiencing homelessness or vulnerably housed in our community or West Berkshire. The primary operation is a friendly drop-in food provision and outreach for vulnerable adults who perhaps have mental health issues or are just lonely. All are greeted with hot food and drinks every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday evening. A warm welcome awaits people who wish to socialise, find support, enjoy a hot meal and interact with like-minded people. Wednesday and Saturdays we provide food and support in The Wharf from our food van. Tuesdays we have community nurses and eye tests with other support at the Salvation Army Hall 2-4pm. Meryl our founder works tirelessly all week to provide outreach, support and signposting where possible.

We know there are plenty of business breakfast clubs around Newbury and WestI Berkshire and we also know that networking isn’t everyone’s cup of tea!

However, Newbury Soup Dragons Breakfast Club is a little different.

It’s about bringing local businesses together, having breakfast, meeting new people and, importantly, understanding a little more about the reality of homelessness and hardship in our own community.

There’s no hard sell and no expectation that you have all the answers.

Just come along, meet me and the team, hear what we do at Newbury Soup Kitchen and see whether there’s a way your business might like to get involved.

We already have some fantastic local businesses supporting us, and I’d love to introduce the Breakfast Club to some new faces.

So, if you’ve never been to one of our breakfasts, why not give it a go?

🆘 POT NOODLE APPEAL 🆘
Newbury Soup Kitchen donate approximately 3000 Pot Noodles every quarter and our stocks are really low!

Every person we feed has the opportunity to take two Pot Noodles or equivalent brand to take away.
A cheap meal to cook (just a kettle)
Perfect for people in emergency accommodation with only access to a kettle such as a b&b.
Great to store and eat in a tent (we provide a flask for hot water).

🚗 VOLUNTEER DRIVER NEEDED – WAITROSE FOOD COLLECTION 🥦 GIVE BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY

Newbury Soup Kitchen is looking for a reliable volunteer to collect food donations from Waitrose in Newbury every other Thursday at 8am and deliver them to our HQ on Hambridge Lane.

What’s involved?
* Collecting food donations from Waitrose & Partners Newbury.
* Using your own car with a good-sized boot or a van.
* Transporting donations safely to our HQ.
* Being able to lift and carry crates of food and carry them up a flight of stairs.

Your help will make a real difference, enabling us to provide fresh, nutritious meals and essential food supplies to people experiencing homelessness, food poverty and vulnerability in our community.

🎨 FROM LONELINESS TO A NEW PURPOSE: EUGENE’S STORY

In this exhibition Eugene presents his drawings on the theme of Remembrance…

Since January, the Newbury Soup Kitchen team has been working intensively with Eugene, supporting him through a period of loneliness and frustration.
What we didn’t know at the beginning was that Eugene was an artist!
Through this support and his hard work he has rediscovered his incredible talent and, with the help of City Arts - Newbury Eugene has been able to create some amazing artwork, which will be on display this weekend as part of an exhibition themed around Remembrance.

🎄Celebrating Community & Giving with Newbury Soup Kitchen
Join us for a special evening of Christmas music, readings and festive cheer at St Nicolas Church, Newbury.
🎶 Featuring Opus Anglicanum http://www.opusanglicanum.org the acclaimed male vocal quintet, described by The Guardian as “true class” and by Classical Music magazine as “assured and polished”. Additional choir and musical guests will be supporting the evenings event.
Whitelands Park Performance Choir, previous performances at Wembley, The O2 and Highclere will be performing during the first half.

🎤 Solo performance by Harry Stradling from local band Who Ate All The Crayons

📖 Christmas readings by Lord and Lady Carnarvon, Lee Dillon MP, VIP guests and members of the Newbury Soup Kitchen team.

We are appealing for donations of good-quality 35–40 litre rucksacks for the people we support at Newbury Soup Kitchen.

A sturdy rucksack can make a huge difference to someone who has nowhere safe to store their belongings, helping them carry their essential items with dignity and security.
