Newbury Pride would like to take the opportunity to respond to the recent comments being made about the contents of a stall from two years ago by repeating the statement we made at the time, adapted to reflect the passage of time since the incident.
We are aware that complaints were made concerning product displays mounted by third-party stall holders at Newbury Pride in 2024.
Newbury Pride Committee would like to sincerely apologise for any offence caused at that time. We would like to reassure the community that we take these concerns seriously, and have acted upon them. Regrettably no complaints were raised at the event itself—and no committee members, stewards or security personnel were alerted to the offensive display—so it was not possible to take remedial action on the day.
However, a committee meeting was held following the event at which it was decided that clearer guidance will be issued to independent vendors at future events. These particular vendors were also not invited back to any following and will not be to our future Pride events, which includes our main event last year and this year.
Newbury Pride is committed to providing a safe, family-friendly space for everybody and we pledge to learn the lessons from this incident and ensure it does not happen again.
In the meantime, we would like to thank everyone for their continued support. We look forward to celebrating with you again in July!
