Thank you to everyone who came to see us at GreenFest West Berkshire. What a fabulous event, with a real buzz from all the activity! (The photo was taken in a rare quiet moment!)

We are delighted to welcome all the new members who joined Spokes today. There was lots of interest in Couch to 50k, Social Bike Rides, and the Eling Way. And we received some great suggestions for cycling infrastructure improvements.

Thanks to all the cyclists who braved the elements (and the traffic) this evening on the Newbury Glow Ride, part of Cycling UK's My Ride Our Right campaign, raising awareness of the need for safer cycling facilities, particularly for women.

And thanks to all the marshals who guided everyone around the route and had to think on their feet due to the town centre road network not being closed as promised.

BIkeability training available in half-term.

Looking for an active activity this October half term?

Bikeability courses are available for children of different ages and abilities, from learning to ride through to developing on-road cycling skills.

Newbury Glow Ride is back on Thursday 22 October. Help us light up the night and call for safer streets and cycling infrastructure to help women feel safe. The 9km led ride takes in two laps of the town centre, with refreshments at the end. Registration link below:

Planning permission was given at Western Area Planning Committee last night for a residential development at the old Newbury Manor Hotel site. As part of this, a strip of land has been secured to widen the shared use path along the A4 past the site, which is great news and tackles a key pinch point.

Bikeability courses are running this summer holiday again.

Children can learn essential cycling skills, build confidence and develop safer cycling habits with our qualified Bikeability instructors.

Courses run from 31 July to 28 August and include:
• Learn to Ride
• Level 1 & 2 Combined (10+)
• Level 3 (10+, after Level 1 & 2)

Courses are being held at Kennet Leisure Centre, Hungerford Leisure Centre and Cotswold Sports Centre.

Sad to see that The Blackbird Cafe in Chapel Row closed last week. It was always a favourite cake stop for local bike clubs and will definitely be missed.
