Refugee Week 2026 – COURAGE
Welcome • Gratitude • Belonging
Courage isn’t always loud. For many refugees, courage begins in the quiet moments, leaving home when home is no longer safe, protecting your family, stepping into a new country and hoping you’ll be welcomed.
At Community United, we see this courage every day.
In rebuilding.
In learning.
In laughter returning.
In trust slowly forming.
Welcome is an action.
It’s the neighbour translating a letter.
The teacher adapting a lesson.
The GP listening with patience.
The volunteer showing up again and again.
The community saying: You belong here.
Woven through this welcome are the British Values that guide how we live together:
Democracy – every voice matters.
Rule of Law – fairness and safety for all.
Individual Liberty – freedom to be yourself without fear.
Mutual Respect & Tolerance – seeing the humanity in each other.
These aren’t tests of identity.
They are commitments to belonging.
To every refugee rebuilding their life in Berkshire West and beyond:
Thank you.
Your resilience strengthens our shared future.
Your courage strengthens our collective courage.
Different backgrounds don’t divide us — they enrich us.
Shared humanity is what binds us.
Stronger communities are what we build together.
Community United remains:
Welcoming. Inclusive. Connected. Stronger Together.
Refugee Week is one week. Belonging is every day.
