🚋🌧️ October Half Term – Activity 4: Crich Tramway Museum! 🌧️🚋

Well… what can we say about this one?! ☔😂 Unfortunately, the Great British weather was certainly NOT on our side for our day trip to Crich Tramway Museum!

After all the recent dreadful weather, we were keeping everything crossed for a little break in the rain… but sadly, it just wasn't meant to be! 🌧️

Despite the downpours, so many of our wonderful families still turned up, waterproofs at the ready, determined to make the most of their day! 💜 And make the most of it they certainly did, even if everyone ended up a little (or VERY!) soggy! 😂

Unfortunately, the weather had one final surprise in store, with a power outage in the local area bringing the day to an early end for quite a few of our families. Not quite the adventure we had planned!

We're so grateful to everyone who braved the elements and joined us. It certainly wasn't the day we'd hoped for, but as always, our families made the very best of the situation, and that's what makes our Spectrum WASP community so special! 💜

We're already hoping to make a return visit to Crich Tramway Museum… perhaps at a slightly warmer (and hopefully MUCH drier!) time of year next time! ☀️🚋

🌟 OCTOBER HALF TERM – ACTIVITY 3! 🌟

While some of us might have preferred a nice slow start to the day… our children and young people had other ideas! 😂🙌

We had a brilliant morning together, up early and burning off PLENTY of energy!

🎹 Tunes were being played on the interactive piano keys
🎯 Target practice was underway with the ball launchers
🤸 Trampolines were well and truly put to good use
🙃 And we even had some aerial gymnastics going on, with some VERY impressive flips being demonstrated!

There was lots of laughter, lots of energy and, most importantly, everyone just getting stuck in and having a great time together. 💜

One of the loveliest things to see at these sessions is new friendships naturally forming. Children and young people chatting, joining in together, encouraging one another and just getting along wonderfully. 🥰

A fab morning, some energy successfully burnt off… although we’re not entirely convinced we tired them out! 😂💜🐝

🚑 OCTOBER HALF TERM – ACTIVITY 2! ❤️‍🩹

Our second half-term activity saw us getting hands-on with two brilliant Introduction to First Aid workshops with Notts Save A Life Ltd! 🙌

Across the sessions, our children and young people learnt some incredibly important life-saving skills, including:

❤️ How to put someone into the recovery position
🫀 How to perform CPR
🫁 What to do if someone is choking
⚡ What a defibrillator (AED) is and how it can be used

These are such valuable life skills to learn, and everyone did amazingly well getting involved, having a go and asking questions. 💜

A HUGE thank you to Paul, who was absolutely fantastic! 👏 He made the sessions interesting, interactive and easy to understand, and did a brilliant job of keeping everyone engaged throughout — which is no mean feat! 😄

It was great to see our children and young people learning skills that could genuinely make a difference one day, while having fun and building their confidence at the same time.

Another fantastic half-term activity ticked off! 💜🐝

🎨🍂 October Half Term – Activity 1! 🍂🎨

We kicked off our October Half Term activities with not one, but TWO brilliant sessions at The Glazey Place for our 5–10yrs and 11–18yrs groups! 💜

Across both sessions we had a wonderful mixture of pots being transformed, from dinosaurs 🦖 and mugs ☕ to spooky Halloween decorations 🎃 and… you guessed it… CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS!! 🎄😂

Is it too early? Maybe. Are we HERE for it? Absolutely! 🙌🎅

Both sessions were wonderful, with everyone really letting their creativity go wild. One of the best things about pottery painting is seeing how completely different each creation turns out, even when people start with the same piece!

There was lots of concentration, plenty of colour and some fabulous designs taking shape throughout both sessions. 🎨✨

A huge thank you to The Glazey Place for welcoming us and giving our children and young people such a lovely space to get creative together.

What a great way to start our October Half Term activities! 💜🍂

Now we just need to patiently wait for everything to be glazed and fired so we can see the finished masterpieces! 👀😍

🎨⚔️ Warhammer is back! ⚔️🎨

After such a brilliant response to our very first Warhammer session, we were excited to welcome our Teens Club group back for round two! 🙌💜

Following on from our introductory session, our young people had another chance to get stuck into the world of Warhammer, continuing to build their skills, get creative and spend time together over a shared interest.

Once again, the concentration was incredible! 🤩 It’s been so lovely to see how engaged everyone has been with the sessions, while also having the opportunity to chat, relax and enjoy being around others who share the same interest.

And we think it’s safe to say we’ve officially sparked a new interest! 🥰 One of our young people excitedly announced during the evening that “Warhammer is now my hobby!” 💜

To go from not knowing much about Warhammer before these sessions to now developing such a keen interest is just wonderful to see — and it’s exactly what opportunities like this are all about. Giving our young people the chance to try something new, discover something they enjoy and maybe even find a brand-new hobby along the way. 🙌

To make the evening even more special, we also had a little birthday sing-song for Roman! 🎂🎉 And, even better, Roman brought along his own birthday cake to share with us all — thank you, Roman! 🥰 We hope you had a fantastic birthday! 💜

What started from a suggestion by one of our parents, Stephen, has already turned into such a lovely addition to our Teens Club activities. A huge thank you to Stephen for once again giving up his time to support the session and share his knowledge with the group.

We’re loving seeing this little Warhammer group develop and can’t wait to see where they take it next! 🎲⚔️🎨

👻🎃 Cooking Made Fun with Steph got SPOOKY! 🎃👻

Our 5–10yrs group had a brilliant time at their latest Cooking Made Fun session with Steph, and of course with Halloween just around the corner, we had to give it a spooky twist! 🕷️🧙‍♀️

On the menu this time were Mini Spooky Sausage Plaits, packed with grated carrot and onion… and oooo, they were tasty! 😋🙌

From mixing all of the ingredients together to assembling the pastry and creating their spooky little plaits, our children got involved with every step from start to finish.

These sessions are such a great opportunity to get hands-on in the kitchen, try different ingredients, practise new skills and, most importantly, have lots of fun along the way! 💜

Another brilliant session with lots of concentration, creativity and some very tasty results to take home at the end! 👏🥰

Our latest Mindful Monday session with the wonderful Betty took on a bit of a Halloween theme this month! 🎃🍂

Joining us during Coffee Morning, we had a very grown-up pumpkin carving session… yes, we actually got to carve pumpkins without any children present!! 😂🙌

Once we’d carved our pumpkins, we got creative decorating the outside before filling them with beautiful plants to create a lovely autumnal feature that could be enjoyed either indoors or outdoors. 🌿🎃

As always, the session was about so much more than what we were making. It gave us a chance to switch off for a little while, unwind, have a chat and catch up with one another over a cuppa. 💜

There was plenty of chatting, laughing and creativity, and everyone went away with their own gorgeous pumpkin creation to enjoy at home.

A huge thank you to Betty for another wonderful Mindful Monday session and to everyone who joined us. 🥰

Sometimes a bit of crafting, good company and a cuppa is exactly what’s needed! ☕🎃💜

🐾🏁 A Night at the Dogs! 🏁🐾

We had a wonderful evening at Nottingham Greyhound Stadium for our latest Spectrum WASP fundraiser! 💜

It was a fairly quiet evening at the races, but we certainly weren’t complaining… it meant we could all grab a seat together and get settled in for the night! 🙌😂

After a little tasty treat from the food bar 🍔🍟, we were all locked in and ready for a great evening of racing! 🐾🏁

More than anything, evenings like this are such a lovely opportunity for our Spectrum WASP families to come together, have a catch-up, spend time with one another and simply enjoy a fun evening out. 💜

We were also absolutely thrilled to receive a very generous £100 donation from Nottingham Greyhound Stadium, which took our total raised for the evening to an amazing £168! 🎉

A huge thank you to Jasmin & the team at Nottingham Greyhound Stadium for supporting us, and of course to all of our families who came along and helped make it such an enjoyable evening.

Every penny raised goes straight back into supporting our wonderful children, young people and families. 💜
