Friends of Beech Road Park Chorlton

Friends of Beech Road Park Chorlton The Friends Group actively contributes to the management and upkeep of our local park, as well as arranging activities. Anyone can join.

Beech Road Park was once known as Chorlton Recreational Ground and is still known by some locals as 'The Rec'. The park was originally sited south of Beech Road until 1896, when Lord Egerton gave the present site to the Council in 1904 when selling the original recreational ground for the development of housing. It was on Valentine's Day in 1968 that the park acquired its first beech trees. 50 were planted by the then Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress together with local school children.

LOST. Yesterday a child's scooter was accidentally left in the park. As you can imagine this has caused some upset. If by any chance you found it, could you let us know so we can get it back to the small person who left it.
Thanks

To the people/dog walkers our Friends members had to talk to about NOT taking their dogs in the fenced off play and 'kick about' area over the last few days. PLEASE STOP and be aware of the quite hefty fine should you continue. It was very entitled behaviour as you actually knew for very good reason that it wasn't allowed.

What’s happening with climate and nature, and what does it mean for everyday life in the UK?

The People’s Emergency Briefing is an eye-opening film bringing together nine leading UK scientists and experts with the latest evidence and why it matters for things like Cost of Living, our Health, Pollution and Flooding..

Residents and community members from across the Withington constituency have come together to bring three showings of this important film along with an opportunity to hear what others are doing and to have your voice heard.

THESE EVENTS ARE COMPLETELY FREE - bring your neighbours and friends!

Happy St George’s Day to all. The rose bushes in the park are in rude health, even if there’s no roses as yet. Plenty of early Spring flowers & blossom on display, though, enjoying the sunshine.

Unity will be in the parks with activities for children and young people next week.

A member of the Friends spoke with the Groundwork workers in the park this lunchtime. They were digging square holes & laying wooden frames for concrete plinths to be laid near all the old bins. New bins with lids, like the bin recently installed at the northwest corner of the park, (the Wilton Road/Thornbridge Ave corner), are due to be anchored into those plinths. Then the old bins, which are mostly quite corroded, will be removed.
