ππ Rest easy, sweet Poppet ππ
Today we said goodbye to our beautiful Poppet.
She went in for her dental and full bloods this morning, and the results showed us what we'd feared most. Her fragile, frail little body was failing. The neglect she had suffered before she came to us had taken too much, and it was simply too late to save her.
We are heartbroken.
Poppet was in so much pain, yet she only ever showed us love. We had such high hopes for her. We pictured her curled up in a forever home, safe and spoiled for the rest of her days. We haven't stopped crying, and we can't stop asking how anyone could let her get to this point. Maybe they knew how poorly she was and didn't want the vet bill. We'll never know.
What we do know is this, in the last days of her life, Poppet knew love. She knew compassion, a warm belly, soft blankets and endless cuddles. When others failed her, we were able to give her that, and we hold onto it with everything we have.
We're angry. We're devastated. This is what happens when a cat is left for far too long without proper care, and it is unforgivable.
Please light a candle in Poppet's name tonight. Remember her. Don't forget her. And please, if your pet is unwell and you're struggling, reach out for help. There is always someone who will help.
We're so sorry we couldn't save you, Poppet. Run free over the rainbow bridge, little girl. You will be in our hearts for a very long time.
