REVIEW OF LIFE: THE DIGNITY OF WORK.

Recently, we had the first session of our brand new 'Review of life' 18+ group based at our headquarters, in Trafford.

Joined by assistant National Chaplain Fr Mark Connoly, the group discussed the obstacles and hardship that all young people are currently facing in the world of work and each young person was able to bring a unique perspective from their own realities. The group then reflected on these realities in the light of Catholic Social teaching, drawing guidance and inspiration for their actions.

European Commission Catalonia 2026 ☀️
This weekend in Barcelona, young leaders from England, Spain, Italy, Portugal and France were hosted by YCW Catalonia for the yearly gathering of the European Commission.
It was a weekend of fruitful discussion about shared future plans and the realities of young people across Europe. 📊💪

YCW leaders from Manchester, welcomed Davide Girotto, ICYCW International President, at their afternoon retreat, yesterday. Led by Anna Lilley and Nathan Johnson, the leaders took a few hours out to pause and reflect upon the key moments in the final week of Jesus’s life. Through reflections, videos, discussions and prayer, they drew inspiration from His humility, love, acts of service, suffering and hope. They re-committed to following his example as leaders who attempt to make a difference in their worlds of work, study and leisure, in their homes and local communities.

Happy New Year from all at YCW England and Wales.

2025 was a busy but blessed year for us!

In July we had our ‘Day of hope’ which brought together groups from across the northwest for a day of reflection on hope and celebration of the YCW centenary. 🎂🥳

We have also been busy reconnecting with our international friends this year! Three members of our leaders forum, Anna, Liane and Famous were able to attend the ICYCW World Council in Paris 🇫🇷 this summer, where they were able to vote and make many new friends!

Anna, as the new development worker and national president was also able to attend the GEPO Symposium in Albania about AI in the world of work, along with YCW Italy and some of our friends from IYCW.

We will be highlighting and reflecting on some key actions of the past year from various YCW and Impact! groups over the next few days so stay tuned!

This weekend, Anna Lilley, YCW national development worker had the opportunity to join workers, activists, and friends of all ages from across Europe at the GEPO Symposium in Tirana, Albania.

We reflected on the opportunities that AI can provide us, for example life saving technology in the medical industry, to performing thorough risk assessments.

We also took a long time to reflect on the ethical fallbacks of widespread AI usage; Unemployment, exploitation and the long-lasting environmental impact.

We explored what it means to keep people and values at the heart of progress and developments, not just within the workplace but in every aspect of life.

As young people, especially in YCW, we have a huge responsibility to understand how technology is shaping our world, and to constantly consider the outcomes of our actions.

The YCW is deeply saddened by the shocking attack on a synagogue in Manchester today.

This is truly devastating, especially on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year for the Jewish community.

YCW will always stand against hate, and those who encourage violence and adversity within any community.

We send our prayers and condolences to all affected.

Let us remember as young people, it is our responsibility not to speculate but to work together to promote peace and solidarity in our diverse communities.
