Fantastic news for Trafford’s Deaf community! 🎉

We are delighted to be supporting Trafford Deaf Community Network to deliver a new two-year advocacy drop-in service.

After a successful five-month pilot ended in March, we have worked hard to find the funding needed to bring this important service back.

📅 Starting Friday 9th October
📍 St Matthew’s Community Hall, Stretford
🔄 Every fortnight 10am - 1pm

Deaf people can drop in for advocacy support with whatever they need help with.

And we’re launching it this Friday 9th October!

Come along, meet us, show your support and help us celebrate. Everyone is welcome.

Our Wellbeing Group recently came together for a special"Making and Saving Memories" session, celebrating both Manchester Deaf Centre's 180th Anniversary and our Deaf Heritage Project. Participants enjoyed creative arts and crafts, shared stories, created keepsakes for our anniversary celebrations, and spent valuable time connecting with friends old and new.

Participants told us the day helped them feel relaxed, connected, confident and proud of their Deaf identity. Creative activities, meaningful conversations, heritage storytelling and delicious refreshments all contributed to a fantastic day of wellbeing and community connection.

A huge thank you to our staff, volunteers and members who made the day so special. Together, we're celebrating Deaf culture, preserving Deaf heritage and creating lasting memories for future generations. 💜

On Monday, Manchester Deaf Social Club members took part in another fantastic Heritage Project session, exploring the theme of Deaf Education. Participants shared memories, experiences and opinions about school life, communication, Deaf identity and how education has changed over the years.

Alongside a visit to the Manchester Deaf Centre Heritage Exhibition, members joined table discussions on a range of education topics, recording stories and reflections that will help preserve Manchester's Deaf heritage for future generations.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their experiences and perspectives. Every story shared helps build a richer understanding of our Deaf community's history and ensures these memories are not lost.

This project is part of Manchester Deaf Centre's 180th Anniversary Heritage Project, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We’re recruiting BSL Tutors!

Manchester Deaf Centre is looking for experienced BSL Tutors to teach Level 3 and above, with both employed and freelance opportunities available.

Employed: £15–£17.50 per hour
Freelance: £25–£30 per hour
Closing date: 12 October 2026
